Melbourne Renegades vs Brisbane Heat Predictions

Melbourne Renegades have a strong squad that will be pushing for a top four spot. The Heat have been rocked by injuries and lack a dynamic batting order but have a strong bowling attack.

  • Brisbane Heat’s Colin Munro averages 30.60 in the Big Bash (1408 runs).
  • Brisbane Heat’s Matt Renshaw has scored 101, 51 & 112 in his last 5 innings.
  • Melbourne Renegades’ Mohammad Rizwan has scored 32*, 51* & 61* in his last 4 innings.
  • Melbourne Renegades’ Jake Fraser-McGurk has scored 34, 27 & 36 in his last 5 innings.

Head-to-Head

Brisbane Heat have won two and lost three of their last five Big Bash matches against the Melbourne Renegades.

Melbourne Renegades Form

In-form Mohammad Rizwan will be a core player for the Renegades, and they will be hoping Jake Fraser-McGurk can hit the high notes of big-hitting batting that saw him hit the headlines in the last two years.

Nathan Lyon isn’t a force in T20 cricket but has plenty of experience that will benefit his side through the season, but the spinner likely to be the big match-winner is the incredibly talented Adam Zampa, who has 134 T20I wickets (ave 21.24, S/R 17.2). Tom Rogers (76 wickets in 59 BBL matches) will be a good foil for Zampa's spin.

Jason Behrendorff is another top bowling talent who is sure to play a key role in the season for the Renegades. He has taken 140 BBL wickets at a strike–rate of 16.5.

Brisbane Heat Form

Usman Khawaja, Colin Munro and Marnus Labuschagne are the big names in the top order, although none are going to break fast-scoring records, so they will be relying on their attack to limit their opponents. Xavier Bartlett has been in form with the bat, scoring 50, 72 and 83 in his last three matches, and has also shone with the ball, picking up 3/25, 4/35, 2/48 and 2/59.

Shaheen Shah Afridi is the kingpin of the Heat’s side. Aside from having the ability to bowl unplayable deliveries, his T20I figures are phenomenal - 126 wickets at an average of 21.26, economy of 7.71 and strike-rate of 16.5.

A massive blow for the Heat is the news that Spencer Johnson’s injury from the IPL will cause him to miss the entire season. Johnson is a big-impact bowler who has a BBL strike-rate of just 15.2, and in his brief T20I career he has picked up 14 in 8 T20Is, at an average of 17.07 and a phenomenal strike-rate of 8.96.

Melbourne Renegades vs Brisbane Heat Team News & Squads

Shaheen Shah Afridi will be leading the Heat’s depleted bowling attack this season, and he will make his BBL debut against countryman Mohammad Rizwan.

"First game is against Rizzy... a world-quality player. And Babar's here as well. They know me, I know them. Hopefully we play some good cricket here. And we're really hopeful we get the Pakistani support, and the Asian community as a whole," said Afridi. "I'll give my best. It's not a small league and is well-renowned as the best league and... the best cricket with the best players."

Melbourne Renegades: Will Sutherland (c), Tim Seifert, Adam Zampa, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Caleb Jewell, Jason Behrendorff, Josh Brown, Harry Dixon, Brendan Doggett, Nathan Lyon, Hassan Khan, Ollie Peake, Mohammad Rizwan, Tom Rogers.
