Australia vs West Indies Predictions

Australia are obvious favourites at home but both sides are not close to full strength. The West Indies will also have some confidence after beating the hosts in a Test match recently.

I am backing Travis Head to score big after his stunning innings in the World Cup final last year.

  • Australia have won their last 8 ODI matches.
  • Australia have won 4 of their last 5 ODIs against the West Indies.
  • Australia’s Travis Head scored 137 runs in the World Cup final.
  • West Indies failed to qualify for the 2023 World Cup.
  • West Indies have won 2 of their last 3 ODI matches.
  • West Indies’ Shai Hope has scored 109 & 68 runs in 2 of his last 3 ODI innings.

Head to Head

Australia have won four of their last five ODIs against the West Indies. They last played in this format back in 2021, a match the Aussies won by six wickets.

Australia Form

Australia come into this ODI series as world champions after winning the ODI World Cup in India last year.

After a slow start to the tournament, the Aussies found their feet and dominated the latter stages. They beat South Africa in a nail-biting semi-final before seeing off the hosts, India in the final.

The Aussies have not played ODI cricket since the World Cup win.

Australia Injuries & Team News

Steven Smith returns to captaincy for this ODI series. There are a few newbies in the squad with Jake Fraser-McGurk, Lance Morris and Will Sutherland all looking to impress.

West Indies Form

The West Indies failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup last year, the first time ever they missed the tournament.

However, the Windies have bounced back well, winning their ODI series against England at home in December 2023. The West Indies won the first ODI before England levelled in the second.

In the third match of the series, the hosts won after rain came into play.

West Indies Injuries & Team News

The West Indies have quite a few players missing as players like Nicholas Pooran are unavailable due to T20 tournament commitments.

Verdict

I am backing Travis Head to score 50+ runs and top the run scoring charts for the hosts. For the West Indies, Shai Hope is the in-form player.
