After beating Afghanistan 3-0 India went down 2-1 to England in their last ODI series. Shubman Gill captains the side after scoring 188 runs in the series against England, while the inclusion of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli adds considerable experience and batting power to the top order. Rohit made 178 runs in the three ODIs against England, including a superb 138, while Kohli chipped in with 144 runs.

KL Rahul provides middle-order stability with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad offering further batting options for what is a strong batting squad. Naman Dhir has earned his maiden call-up, while Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy ensure India’s tail is impressively short.

India will be without Jasprit Bumrah who is on international duty with India’s T20 squad doing duty at the Asian Games. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna will assume key new-ball roles, with Gurnoor Brar providing additional pace to the attack. Kuldeep Yadav and Jadeja could prove particularly dangerous through the middle overs on the familiar Indian surfaces.

West Indies Form

The West Indies come into this series after losing 2-3 to New Zealand in a home ODI series and picking up just two wins in their six ODIs this year. Skipper Shai Hope is central to their hopes of improving that record, with Keacy Carty and John Campbell expected to provide stability at the top of the order.

Sherfane Rutherford brings valuable power and recent experience of Indian conditions following his IPL campaign with the Mumbai Indians. Youngster Jewel Andrew is another exciting prospect, while Amir Jangoo, Roston Chase and Justin Greaves provide batting depth.

The visitors' pace attack could be their biggest weapon. Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales have the speed and skills to put India's experienced top order to the test, particularly with the new ball. Matthew Forde offers another seam option, while Gudakesh Motie leads the spin department alongside Vitel Lawes, who impressed with eight wickets in his debut series against New Zealand.
