New Zealand vs West Indies 2nd ODI Predictions - Conway to cut through the West Indies attack

Editor
Last updated: 1 hour ago

In the ongoing ODI series, New Zealand has taken a 1-0 lead against the West Indies. Their recent victory marks their fifth consecutive ODI win, showcasing impeccable form. Daryll Mitchell scored an impressive 119 in the opener but will miss the remaining matches due to injury. New Zealand replaced him with Henry Nicholls, who has been in formidable form. Despite strong performances from West Indies players like Shai Hope, they fell short of their target. The West Indies need more consistency and higher individual scores to regain control.

New Zealand vs West Indies Predictions

New Zealand continued their winning ODI form by securing their fifth straight ODI win when they beat the West Indies by seven runs in the 1st ODI. It was also their fourth whiteball win in a row over the West Indies on this tour, so they are clearly the team to back.

  • New Zealand’s Devon Conway scored 49 off 58 balls in the 1st ODI.
  • New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra has scored five tons in 33 ODI knocks (ave 42.31).
  • West Indies’ Shai Hope has scored 53*, 46* 55, 53, 24 & 37 in his last 9 innings.
  • West Indies’ Sherfane Rutherford top-scored with 55 off 61 balls (three sixes).

Head-to-Head

New Zealand have won four and lost one of their last five ODIs against the West Indies.

New Zealand Form

New Zealand made it five wins from their last five ODIs when they beat the West Indies by seven runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Daryll Mitchell (119 in the 1st ODI) will be replaced by in-form Henry Nicholls, who has scored 117*, 138 & 25 in his last five innings. New Zealand opener Tom Latham has been in good form domestically scoring 78, 29 & 97* in his last four innings, but his highest ODI score in four innings is 24.

Kyle Jamieson starred with the ball in the 1st ODI, taking 3/52 (econ 5.20) to knock over three of the West Indies’ top five batters. Zak Foulkes was superbly economical, taking 1/30 at a rate of just 3.75 runs per over.

New Zealand Team News

A big blow for New Zealand is the absence of hard-hitting Daryll Mitchell, who scored 119 in the 1st ODI. Mitchell picked up a thigh injury and didn’t field in the West Indies innings. He will miss the last two ODIs of the series.

West Indies Form

The West Indies slipped to their third defeat in four ODIs when they fell seven runs short of their target in the 1st ODI against New Zealand.

Alick Athanaze has made good starts but the West Indies need him to push on for bigger scores. In his last nine whiteball innings he has scored 34, 52, 33, 32, 21 & 29. Sherfane Rutherford’s poor form with the bat ended with a top-score of 55 in the 1st ODI.

Jayden Seales gave the West Indies hope in the 1st ODI, taking 3/45 (econ 4.55) before Daryll Mitchell put his side on the winning track. Matthew Forde has backed Seales up well in his last three matches, taking 2/20 and 2/55 in two of the matches, while keeping things tight in the other match (0/17, econ 5.66).

West Indies Team News

The West Indies need greater consistency from their top order, as well as some bigger individual scores.

Verdict

I am backing New Zealand to win. I am also backing Devon Conway to top score for New Zealand.

Shai Hope is a good bet to top score for the West Indies.
