Pakistan vs England ODI Predictions - Salman to strike again for Pakistan

Editor
Last updated: 2 hours ago

Pakistan are tipped to upset favourites England in their upcoming tri-series clash due to excellent home form and a strong recent showing against Sri Lanka. Salman Agha’s century and Shaheen Afridi’s key wickets highlight their strength. While England have a superior head-to-head record and power hitters like Tom Banton and Harry Brook, the underdog odds and favourable conditions point toward a bet on Pakistan. Both teams have standout performers, but the article concludes that Pakistan offers value as potential winners.

Pakistan vs England Predictions

Pakistan are tipped to claim a second successive tri-series victory. Their pace attack took all 10 Sri Lankan wickets while Salman Agha’s century drove the hosts beyond 300. England boast the stronger historical record and a powerful batting order, but home conditions and the available underdog price give Pakistan an appealing betting angle.

  • Pakistan’s Salman Agha has scored 72, 145 & 107 in his last 5 innings.
  • Pakistan’s Babar Azam made 45 off 57 balls vs Sri Lanka in the series opener.
  • Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi returned figures of 3/55 vs Sri Lanka.
  • England’s Tom Banton has scored 73 & 126 in his last 2 innings.
  • England’s Harry Brook has scored 23, 33, 67 & 77 in his last 5 knocks.
  • England’s Liam Dawson has taken 2/23, 3/32 & 3/26 in his last 4 innings.
  • England have won 4 of their last 5 completed ODIs against Pakistan.

Head-to-Head

England have won their last four ODIs against Pakistan, including a 93-run victory at their last meeting.

Pakistan Form

Pakistan have won three of their last four ODIs, which included a 2-1 series win over Australia. They opened the tri-series by posting 305 against Sri Lanka and securing the win by 37 runs.

Salman Agha struck 107 off 90 deliveries in the opener on the back of a rich vein of form. Babar Azam also continued to rack up the runs in scoring 45 off 57 balls while debutant Saad Baig hit 39 with three fours and two sixes.

Shaheen Afridi led the attack with 3/55, while Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf and Faheem Ashraf each picked up a pair of wickets for their efforts.

England Form

England have four wins from their last five ODIs, including a 2-1 series win over India followed by a 2-1 series win over Sri Lanka to secure three consecutive ODI series wins this year.

Joe Root’s 575 runs in 10 matches and Ben Duckett’s 399 in 10 make them key batting threats. Sam Curran returns to bolster the all-round options while the in-form pair of Tom Banton and Harry Brook have both scored over 60 in each of their last two innings.

Adil Rashid and Will Jacks will be vital to keep the Pakistan batters in check through the middle overs. Liam Dawson is their dangerman after taking nine wickets in his last four matches.

Team News

Shaheen Afridi captains Pakistan are likely to retain the XI that defeated Sri Lanka, including wicketkeeper Saad Baig.

England arrive without the injured Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer (unavailable) while Sam Curran is back in action for England. Conditions are forecast to be sunny and warm with temperatures hitting around 29-31°C.

Pakistan (possible XI): Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Babar Azam, Saad Baig, Salman Ali Agha, Hasan Nawaz, Arafat Minhas, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Shah Afridi (c), Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf.

England (possible XI): Tom Banton, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook (c), Jordan Cox, Will Jacks, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Gus Atkinson, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid.

Verdict

England are strong favourites to win but Pakistan’s form makes the 2.20 payout for their win rather tempting.

Salman Agha is the preferred Pakistan batter to back after his century in the opener, while Tom Banton has scored over 70 in each of his last two knocks. Shaheen Afridi and Liam Dawson lead the respective bowling picks for the match
