Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2nd ODI Predictions - Salman Agha to strike again for Pakistan

Editor
Last updated: 2 hours ago

In the eagerly anticipated 2nd ODI between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Pakistan seems poised for victory after winning their last two matches and demonstrating strong performances from key players like Salman Agha and Haris Rauf. Despite Sri Lanka's commendable fight in previous games, their reliance on lower-order contributions highlights the need for higher scores from top-order batsmen. Pakistan's consistent form, particularly with Salman Agha’s and Haris Rauf’s contributions, makes them favorites. On the Sri Lankan side, Pathum Nissanka is a promising contender for top scorer.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Predictions

Pakistan have won three of their last four ODIs, including the last two on the bounce, so they should be full of confidence going into the 2nd ODI. Sri Lanka put up a good fight in the end, but relied on their lower-order for vital runs. Pakistan have a far stronger squad and should be favourites to take the win.

  • Pakistan’s Salman Agha has scored 33, 63 69 & 105* in his last 4 innings.
  • Pakistan’s Hussain Talat has scored 57, 22 & 62 in his last 4 innings.
  • Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka has scored 50, 68, 22, 107 & 29 in his last 7 innings.
  • Sri Lanka’s Sadeera Samarawickrama has scored 49*, 35, 31 7 39 in his last 4 innings.

Head-to-Head

Pakistan have won four and lost one of their last five matches against Sri Lanka, including the last two on the bounce.

Pakistan Form

Pakistan made it two wins in a row when they followed up their series-winning performance in the 3rd ODI against South by beating Sri Lanka in the 1st ODI.

Pakistan’s middle-order wagged to rescue them from 95/4 at the halfway mark. Salman Agha (105*) and Hussain Talat (62) added 138 for the fifth wicket to lift Pakistan to 299/5 off their 50 overs.

Haris Rauf (4/61) knocked over Sri Lanka’s top four to put them on the back foot. Naseem Shah (2/55, econ 5.50) and Faheem Ashraf (2/49) chipped in with tight bowling to deny Sri Lanka the win.

Babar Azam is starting to find form with the bat, scoring 68, 27 and 29 in his last five whiteball innings. Saim Ayub was in great form with the bat in the ODI series against South Africa (39, 53 & 77), but added just six in the 1st ODI against Sri Lanka.

Pakistan Team News

Pakistan are in good form and are unlikely to make any changes to their team.

Sri Lanka Form

Sri Lanka’s winning streak against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh came to an end when they lost to Pakistan by six runs.

Wanindu Hasaranga is having a hot streak with the ball in whiteball competition, taking two or more wickets in seven of his last 10 matches (20 wickets in total).

Sri Lanka’s batters are all making good starts, but they aren’t pushing through for big scores on a consistent basis. Kamil Mishara (38) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (39) were the highest scores among Sri Lanka’s top seven in the 1st ODI.

Sri Lanka came close to the win thanks to 59 runs from number eight Wanindu Hasaranga and 21 from number 10 Maheesh Theekshana, but they will need their top-order to put some bigger scores together if they want to pick up wins in this series.

Sri Lanka Team News

Sri Lanka have been performing well in ODIs, but they need their top-order to start putting together bigger scores on a more consistent basis.

Verdict

I am backing Pakistan to win. I am also backing Salman Agha to top score for Pakistan, while Haris Raufs’ form with the ball could see him finish the ODI as the Top Bowler.

Pathum Nissanka is a good bet to top score for Sri Lanka.
