Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe Preview

Sri Lanka narrowly won a very exciting contest in the 2nd ODI against Zimbabwe. They are favourites yet again, but the value is in the run-scoring markets. Janith Liyanage and Craig Ervine are backed to top score.

  • Sri Lanka have won 5 of their last 6 ODIs against Zimbabwe.

  • Zimbabwe have lost their last 3 ODI matches.
  • Zimbabwe’s Craig Ervine scored 82 runs in the 2nd ODI.

Head to Head

Sri Lanka have won five of their last six ODIs against Zimbabwe. After the opening ODI was rained out, Sri Lanka won the second ODI by two wickets in Colombo.

Sri Lanka Form

Sri Lanka have ensured they cannot lose the series but need a victory to secure the series win. They won the second ODI against Zimbabwe by two wickets.

Zimbabwe batted first, scoring 208 runs before being bowled out inside 45 overs. Maheesh Theekshana was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4-31.

The hosts were under pressure early 53-4 and 112-6. At that point Zimbabwe were on top but Janish Liyanage anchored the innings superbly, scoring 95 runs. In the end the lower order put enough runs together to see Sri Lanka home with an over to spare.

Sri Lanka Injuries & Team News

The hosts will not want to risk Zimbabwe leveling the series, but they may look to make a couple of changes in the bowling department.

Zimbabwe Form

Zimbabwe will be disappointed that they come into this fixture 1-0 down in the series. They will feel they should have won the second ODI.

The visitors batted first with Craig Ervine scoring 82 runs. There were a few other contributions with Ryan Burl scoring 31 and Joylord Gumbie 30. However, the tail collapsed, and Zimbabwe were all out for 208 runs.

The five overs that Zimbabwe failed to bat out cost them dearly in the end. Richard Ngarava bowled superbly for his 5-32 and they had Zimbabwe reeling at 112-6. But Zimbabwe couldn’t close it out and ended up losing by two wickets with an over to spare.

Zimbabwe Injuries & Team News

I expect Zimbabwe to remain unchanged.

Verdict

I am backing Janith Liyanage to top score for Sri Lanka and amass over 50 runs as my best bet.

For Zimbabwe, Craig Ervine is tipped to top the scoring charts.
