Perth Scorchers vs Hobart Hurricanes Predictions - Connolly to blast the Hurricanes bowlers

Last updated: 25 minutes ago

The Perth Scorchers and Hobart Hurricanes are set to clash in an exciting Big Bash match. Both teams have shown strong performances, with star players like Cooper Connolly and Finn Allen showcasing impressive batting skills. Scorchers recently posted the second-highest score in BBL history, and despite a close loss, they are in prime form. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes, with players like Nikhil Chaudhary and Ben McDermott, have also demonstrated great resilience. The match's outcome could heavily depend on the toss, given the favorable conditions for quicks at Optus. Backing the Scorchers to win.

Perth Scorchers vs Hobart Hurricanes Predictions

Both sides have already had one match go down to the last ball, but the Hurricanes pulled a win out the bag while the Scorchers suffered a defeat. The Hurricanes started their campaign with three games in six days and might be feeling the effects, while The Scorchers should have  fresher legs having played just two matches in five days before the brief Christmas break.

  • Perth Scorchers’ Cooper Connolly is firing on all cylinders, scoring 47, 88, 59 & 77 in his last four knocks
  • Perth Scorchers’ Finn Allen hit eight sixes in his 38-ball 79 against the Heat.
  • Hobart Hurricanes’ Nikhil Chaudhary hit 11 boundaries in his 38-ball 79 against the Renegades.
  • Hobart Hurricanes’ Ben McDermott has scored 44, 43*, 38, 69 & 49* in his last 5 innings.

Head-to-Head

The Scorchers have won three and lost two of their last five Big Bash matches against the Hurricanes.

Perth Scorchers Form

After winning their opener by five wickets, the Scorchers suffered a cruel loss to the Heat off the second last ball of the match.

The Scorchers put up a superb batting performance to post 257/8 off their 20 overs. Finn Allen (79 off 38) and Cooper Connolly (77 off 37) thrilled the crowds with their explosive hitting. The pair added 142 for the second wicket off 10.3 overs as they posted the second-highest score in BBL history.

The Heat went out and achieved the highest-ever successful run chase in BBL history to win by eight wickets with a ball in hand. Jhye Richardson (1/49) was the only Scorchers bowler to pick up a wicket.

Hobart Hurricanes Form

The Hurricanes kicked off their campaign with a four-wicket win, then lost to the Stars by eight wickets. They bounced back with a seven-wicket win over the Renegades to move into second spot on the table.

Chris Jordan (4/19, econ 4.75) and Nathan Ellis (2/43) ripped through the Renegades line-up to restrict them to 145/9 off their 20 overs.

The Hurricanes lost Mitchell Owen off the first ball of their chase and were 38/2 off 3.3 overs before Nikhil Chaudhary (79 off 38) and Ben McDermott (49* off 33) took their side home for a seven-wicket win.

Perth Scorchers vs Hobart Hurricanes Team News

The track at the Optus should favour the quicks, offering good pace and bounce with the new ball, with not much turn for the spin bowlers. The toss should play a role, with both sides likely to want to bat first and hope for an above-average score at the Optus of pushing 165.

Perth Scorchers (possible XI): Finn Allen (w), Mitch Marsh, Cooper Connolly, Aaron Hardie, Ashton Turner (c), Laurie Evans, Nick Hobson, Ashton Agar, Joel Paris, Brody Couch, Mahli Beardman.

Hobart Hurricanes (possible XI): Mitchell Owen, Ben Stanlake, Nikhil Chaudhary, Ben McDermott, Tim David, Matthew Wade (w), Rehan Ahmed, Chris Jordan, Nathan Ellis (c), Riley Meredith, Rishad Hossain.

Verdict

I am backing Perth Scorchers to win, with Cooper Connolly to top score.
