Last updated: 11 minutes ago

The upcoming match is expected to see the Perth Scorchers triumph, with Finn Allen forecasted to emerge as the top scorer. Breaking down the potential for individual performances, Allen is tipped to score over 50 runs. Meanwhile, Sam Harper is being watched as the best batter for the Melbourne Stars, and Mitchell Marsh is favored to score 30+ runs. These predictions set the stage for an exhilarating match filled with promising individual performances.

Perth Scorchers vs Melbourne Stars Predictions

It’s a straight shoot-out for second spot between two sides with identical results ahead of the last game for both of them in the group stage of this season's Big Bash. I’m backing the Scorchers to take the win as they have won four of their last five five games, while the Stars have lost three of their last five.

  • Perth Scorchers’ Finn Allen has scored 38 & 101 in his last two knocks.
  • Perth Scorchers’ Mitchell Marsh has scored 102, 27, 37, 88 & 20 in his last 5 innings.
  • Melbourne Stars’ Sam Harper has scored 37, 20, 21 & 84* in his last 5 innings.
  • Melbourne Stars’ Thomas Rogers has scored 23, 53 & 32 in his last 3 innings.

Head-to-Head

The Scorchers have won their last five matches against the Stars.

Perth Scorchers Form

The Scorchers beat the Renegades by 50 runs to secure back-to-back wins.

Finn Allen displayed his attacking brilliance with another phenomenal whiteball century and could be key to punching his side into a second-place finish. He is the tournament’s leading six-hitter, clearing the ropes 26 times - six more than his nearest rival. After a slow start Mitchell Marsh has hit top form again and his opening partnership with Allen will play a major part for them through the playoffs.

Cooper Connolly has 11 wickets for the season at an economy rate of 6.74, in addition to scoring 195 runs at a strike-rate of 145.52. Joel Paris is level with Connolly on 11 wickets after a great run of form in his last five matches, taking 2/22, 2/28, 2/36, 3/22 and 1/7.

Melbourne Stars Form

After losing three matches on the bounce, the Stars picked-up wins over the Renegades and the Strikers to keep their hopes of second place in the table alive.

Sam Harper has had a brilliant season with the bat, scoring consistently and notching 84* in his second-last match. Marcus Stoinis has topped 200 runs at an average of 69.66 this season.

Peter Siddle has been bowling superbly and at pace all season, despite his advanced years (41). He is fifth on the wickets list with 15 victims under his belt. Also doing their bit with the ball has been Tom Curran (15 wickets), Haris Rauf (15) and skipper Marcus Stoinis (14).

Perth Scorchers vs Melbourne Stars Team News

The Scorchers have a major had boost with the return of Josh Inglis to the matchday squad after coming back from a managed break.

Joe Clarke has been drafted back into the squad for the final match of the group stages. Back after recovering from a hip injury, Clarke takes over from replacement player Sam Hain.

Perth Scorchers (squad): Finn Allen, Mahli Beardman, Cooper Connolly, Brody Couch, Laurie Evans, Sam Fanning, Aaron Hardie, Nick Hobson, Luke Holt, Josh Inglis, Mitch Marsh, David Payne, Jhye Richardson, Ashton Turner (c).

Melbourne Stars (squad): Hilton Cartwright, Joe Clarke, Tom Curran, Sam Harper, Liam Hatcher, Campbell Kellaway, Blake Macdonald, Glenn Maxwell, Hamish McKenzie, Haris Rauf, Tom Rogers, Peter Siddle, Marcus Stoinis (c), Mitchell Swepson.

Verdict

I am backing the Scorchers to win, with Finn Allen to top score.
