2026 T20 World Cup Journey 


India topped Group A with four wins from four, despite a nervy start in their opening match against the USA, which they ended up winning by 29 runs. They then hammered Namibia by 93 runs, comprehensively beat Pakistan by 61 runs before a narrow escape against the Netherlands (17 runs).

Their first match in the Super 8s was their biggest challenge, and they failed to rise to it, losing to South Africa by 6 runs. They bounced back with a 72-run win over Zimbabwe, before sealing their ticket to the semi-finals by beating the West Indies by five wickets in a thrilling match. 

World Cup Stars 


Skipper Suryakumar Yadav has been India’s key batter, scoring 231 runs (5th, ave 38.50), with Ishan Kishan (224 runs, ave 32.00) also delivering the goods in a major way. Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma have all scored over 150 runs in the tournament ahead of the semi-finals.

Varun Chakravarthy is India’s leading wicket-taker and is joint-third in the World Cup wickets list with 12 at an average of 15.33. Jasprit Bumrah (9 wickets, joint 16th) has been devastating on occasions and has turned matches on their head, taking 3/15 against South Africa and 2/36 against the West Indies.

Arshdeep Singh (8 wickets), Axar Patel (7 wickets) and Hardik Pandya (6 wickets) have contributed to an Indian attack that has the matching of the powerful South African bowlers.
