Australia vs South Africa Predictions
Australia appear invincible… but India gave them a huge scare in the semi-final. South Africa started poorly and sneaked into the semi-final… but they are now playing world-class cricket and have a passionate crowd behind them. An upset is on the cards.
- South Africa’s Tazmin Brits has scored 45, 50* and 68 in her last 3 innings
- South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt has scored 65, 66* & 53 in her last 6 innings
- Australia’s Alyssa Healy has scored 55, 37, 54* & 25 in her last 4 innings
- Australia’s Beth Mooney has scored 56*, 20 & 54 in her last 3 innings
Head-to-Head
Australia have won the last five meetings between the two sides. Australia won the group match against South Africa by six wickets with 21 balls in hand.
Australia Form
After sailing through the group stages, Australia came close to being beaten in the semi-final by India.
Australia scored a challenging 172/4 off their 20 overs. Beth Mooney (54) and Meg Lanning (49) ensured Australia set India a tough semi-final chase.
India got off to a brilliant start before being pegged back by the Aussies bowlers. They launched a superb late charge but fell six runs short at the end of their 20 overs. Darcie Brown (2/18) was sensational with the ball for Australia.
Australia Team News
South Africa’s first appearance in a cricket World Cup final might be the psychological advantage needed to beat this incredible Australian side that appears invincible… but every great team must lose eventually.
South Africa Form
Having sneaked in the semi-final, South Africa faced their World Cup semi-final nemesis - England!
Laura Wolvaardt (53) and Tazmin Brits (68) built on their undefeated opening partnership against Bangladesh with a first-wicket stand of 96. Marizanne Kapp added a blitzy 27* to lift South Africa to 164/4 off their 20 overs.
England got off to an incredible start and looked set for victory, before Ayabonga Khaka (4/29) and Shabnim Ismail (3/27) knocked the fight out of England, who ended on 158/8 off their 20 overs.
South Africa Team News
South Africa have peaked perfectly and are playing some of the best cricket in their history. Home ground advantage and the presence of the Newlands Faithful should give the Proteas the edge.
Verdict
I am backing South Africa to win. I am also backing Tazmin Brits to top score for the Proteas.
Alyssa Healy is a good bet to top score for the Aussies.
