India’s squad is red-hot in all departments and they are firm favourites to lift the trophy.

Squad strength

India have such a strong squad that any opponent will be hard-pressed to beat them. They have plenty of players in brilliant form from the IPL, but their strength is that they have enough quality players in their squad that even if the form players hit a bad patch, there will be class players able to step in and score runs or take wickets as needed.

Rohit Sharma has played some good innings in the IPL but has also had a string of failures. However, he has a habit of stepping up to perform in big tournaments when it counts.

India's bowling has plenty of options, with almost all of them being world-class performers. They have great pace, decent seamers and a fantastic spin quintet, with plenty of left-arm options.

Key players

Virat Kohli has the IPL Orange Cap by over 100 runs and has been scoring freely and at a decent rate. He looks super motivated. Rishabh Pant has been pretty impressive in the IPL with the bat, while Yuzvendra Chahal and Jasprit Bumrah have been on fire with the ball.

Coach’s call

"All the options are open for our opening pair. We haven't decided yet. There is no guarantee and we will go there to the West Indies and depending on the conditions we will decide the playing XI,” said captain Rohit Sharma at the announcement of the squad.

“We sort of make the playing 11 in our mind. A lot of the prep and the talk happens during the IPL. We have been playing this format for a while and the talk of how our 15 is going to be started long back, but you can't change your plans based on a few IPL performances.

"One thing we looked at was our middle overs hitting. Our top-order hitting has been alright, but there are options there. We picked Shivam Dube based on what he has done in the IPL and before that. We spoke about it and decided. There is no guarantee what our playing 11 will be like. We will play a few practice games and depending on conditions and opposition, decide our plans."
