India vs Zimbabwe Predictions

India and Zimbabwe both had impressive group stages in the World Cup, only to come unstuck in their first game in the Super 8s. Zimbabwe have some talented players who are performing well at this World Cup, but India's squad depth is sure to be too strong for Zimbabwe to handle.

After winning all four of their group matches, India suffered a 76-run defeat to the Proteas.

South Africa posted a challenging score of 187/7 off their 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh (2/28, econ 7.00) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/15, econ 3.75) produced masterful spells of bowling, but the rest of the Indian bowlers were hammered by the Proteas.

India folded for 111 off 18.5 overs after being reduced to 51/5 in the 10th over. Shivam Dube (42 off 37 balls) was the only Indian batter to score more than the 18 posted by both Suryakumar Yadav (22 balls) and Hardik Pandya (17 balls).

Zimbabwe Form

Zimbabwe came into the Super 8s on the back of excellent wins over Australia and Sri Lanka, only to be crushed by the West Indies by 107 runs.

Zimbabwe’s bowlers took a hammering from possibly the most explosive batting line-up in the tournament as the West Indies posted 254/6 off their 20 overs.

Richard Ngarava (2/47) picked up two top-six wickets, while Blessing Muzarabani (one of the stars of this World Cup) was again in the wickets, taking 2/42. Graeme Cremer (1/38, econ 9.50) was the only bowler to go for under 10 to the over.

After collapsing to 20/3, Dion Myers (28 off 15) and Sikandar Raza (27 off 20) did their best to keep the chase on track. Brad Evans offered some late resistance, hitting five sixes and two fours in his 21-ball 43, but Zimbabwe were bowled out for 147 off 17.4 overs.

India captain Suryakumar Yadav admitted that his side had been outplayed by the Proteas during their Super 8 defeat.

“We were always in the game when we started. Bowled really well in the beginning but they batted really well and bowled really well, but we could have batted better. We did not have the partnerships we needed, but we will learn from it,” said Yadav.

Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza told interviewers after the defeat to the West Indies that he would be going for a scan of his finger after picking up a knock during the match.

“The plan of action is to go for a scan tomorrow and hopefully it will all be fine. For me it is very important to learn from this game. We don't want to look for excuses. If we want to go through we have to win in every country, every venue,” said Raza.
