India have dominated the 20-over series against New Zealand as they once again display their credentials as favourites to claim the upcoming T20 World Cup crown. New Zealand have some talented players but they’re no match for India’s top-order heavyweight batters.

India made it four wins from their last four completed T20Is when they beat New Zealand by seven wickets to take a 2-0 win in the five-match series.

New Zealand set India 209 to win off their 20 overs after a strong bowling performance on a great batting strip. Kuldeep Yadav (2/35, econ 8.75) knocked over two of New Zealand’s batting dangermen. Hardik Pandya (1/25, econ 8.33) was the most economical of the bowlers. Varun Chakravarthy has three wickets to his credit this series, but Kuldeep Yadav looks the real dangerman, taking a wicket in each of his last five matches, including figures of 3/52 and 2/35.

After losing two wickets for just six runs chasing New Zealand’s target, Ishan Kishan (76 off 32 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (82* off 37 balls) blitzed the New Zealand attack to storm to the win with almost five overs to spare. Shivam Dube slapped three sixes off his 18-ball 36* to secure the win. Yadav is India’s leading run-scorer in the series with 114 runs on his belt.

After winning three T20Is in a row to win their five-match series against the West Indies 3-1, the Kiwis came back to earth with a bump when they lost back-to-back matches against India.

Hard-hitting Rachin Ravindra rediscovered his batting touch to score 44 off 26 balls. Mitchell Santner ended the innings with a hard-hitting 47* off 27 balls, but New Zealand always knew they were short of runs.

New Zealand’s top wicket taker in the Series is Jacob Duffy (three wickets), and he was the only Black Caps bowler to go for under 10 runs to the over (1/38, econ 9.50) in the 2nd T20I. Matt Henry took 1/41 and has taken 4/43 and 3/43 in his last four bowling innings.

India skipper Suryakumar Yadav was astonished by team-mate Ishan Kishan’s 32-ball innings of 76. "I don't know what Ishan had in the afternoon for lunch, but I have never seen someone batting that way at 6 for 2 and ending the powerplay on 60-odd. But that's what we want for our batters to be able to express themselves. When they were 110 for 2, I thought it would be a 230-odd total, but all the bowlers chipped in and took responsibility. I am really enjoying what's happening right now. The mood is happy in the camp and I want to keep them in that space," said Yadav.

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner admitted that to challenge India you need to post a really big score: "Against these guys… 300 maybe? When you come up against a side that bats deep and the way India came out with intent from ball one, for us it's about squeezing them where we can. There are still some guys still to come and you want to make sure the guys are ready for the World Cup. Today we were put under a lot of pressure and it was good for us to learn and bounce back," said Santner.
