New Zealand vs South Africa Women 3rd T20I Predictions - Brits to batter White Ferns attack to earn 2-1 series lead

Editor
Last updated: 1 hour ago

In a thrilling T20I series, South Africa Women bounced back to clinch an 18-run victory against New Zealand, leveling the series at 1-1. Key contributions from Tazmin Brits, Laura Wolvaardt, and Ayabonga Khaka were pivotal for the Proteas, overshadowing New Zealand's efforts led by Amelia Kerr and Georgia Plimmer. With their powerful batting line-up and effective bowling, South Africa has shifted the momentum in their favor. As both teams prepare for more matches, the Proteas are well-positioned to capitalize on their newfound confidence.

New Zealand vs South Africa Women Predictions

New Zealand Women’s monster win in the 1st T20I was quickly forgotten as the South Africa Women team found their feet on Kiwi soil to secure an 18-run win with a strong performance with bat and ball. I’m backing the visitors as the momentum is with them.

  • South Africa Women’s Tazmin Brits has scored 77, 29 & 53 in her last 4 innings.
  • South Africa Women’s Laura Wolvaardt scored 41 off 33 balls in the 2nd T20I.
  • New Zealand Women’s Amelia Kerr top-scored with 32 off 18 balls in the 2nd T20I.
  • New Zealand Women’s Georgia Plimmer has scored 32 & 63 in her last 3 innings.

Head-to-Head

South Africa Women have won 2 and lost 3 of their last 5 T20Is against New Zealand Women.

New Zealand Women Form

New Zealand Women lost to the Proteas by 18 runs in the 2nd T20I to make it 4 wins and 1 defeat in their last 5 T20Is.

The White Ferns bowlers took some stick from the Proteas, with only Rosemary Mair (4-0-18-0, econ 4.50) going for under 7.25 runs to the over. Amelia Kerr (2/29, econ 7.25) was the pick of their bowlers, with Jess Kerr (2/34, econ 8.50) offering good support.

After losing two early wickets Amelia Kerr (32 off 18) and Sophie Devine (25 off 18) went about rebuilding the innings. Wickets continued to fall and only Izzy Sharp (29 off 21) offered much resistance as New Zealand were bowled out for 159 in the 20th over.

South Africa Women Form

After picking up back-to-back T20I defeats, South Africa Women beat the White Ferns in the 2nd T20I to level the 5-match series at 1-1.

The Proteas put aside thoughts of their batting disaster in the 1st T20I with an opening stand of 62 in 7 overs between Sune Luus (31 off 21) and Tazmin Brits (53 off 43). Laura Wolvaardt weighed in with a breezy 41* off 33 balls, while Kayla Reyneke hammered 28* off just 9 balls, with 2 fours and 3 sixes.

The Proteas posted a challenging score of 177/5 off their 20 overs and then knocked over both of New Zealand’s openers in the first 3 overs. Ayabonga Khaka ran through 4 of New Zealand’s top 7 batters to return figures of 4/27 (econ 6.75). Nonkululeko Mlaba (3/27, econ 6.75) helped mop up the tail to secure the 18-run win.

New Zealand Women vs South Africa Women Team News & Squads

New Zealand captain Amelia Kerr admitted in the post-match interviews that a score of 170 was a little under par.

“Some great finishing by South Africa. Through the middle they bowled well but we did not quite rotate strike or find the boundaries we wanted to. Flip that around a bit and it is a different story,” said Kerr.

“It was great prep heading into the World Cup, and it just shows how small moments can win games. Unfortunately we were on the other side today,” added Kerr.

Proteas skipper Laura Wolvaardt expressed her relief during the post-match ceremony at her side winning their first match of the series.

“Really nice to bounce back and a much, much better performance overall. Nice to come back level. Lots of games to play, but very pleased with that performance,” said Wolvaardt.

“The powerplay was not our best, but we pulled it back nicely. Great batting intent and we hit our plans with the ball. Happy to know we have such power through the batting line-up,” added Wolvaardt.

Anneke Bosch comes in as a replacement for Dane van Niekerk, who is out of the tour with a calf injury.

New Zealand Women squad: Amelia Kerr (c), Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine, Flora Devonshire, Isabella Gaze, Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Bree Illing, Polly Inglis, Jess Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Nensi Patel, Georgia Plimmer, Izzy Sharp, Lea Tahuhu.
