Proteas Women set for first T20I series in Zimbabwe

In a major development for women's cricket, South Africa and Zimbabwe will play their first-ever T20I series in September 2026. Following the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, the Proteas Women will tour Zimbabwe for a five-match series in Bulawayo. Cricket South Africa and Zimbabwe Cricket have expressed enthusiasm, highlighting the series as a milestone for growing women’s cricket across Africa and offering players valuable competitive experience. The hope is this series will inspire more women in Africa to take up cricket and elevate the profile of the game on the continent.

First T20I between South Africa and ZImbabwe Women


South Africa and Zimbabwe are set to play one another in a T20I for the first time when the Proteas tour Zimbabwe in September 2026 after the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup being held in England and Wales from 12 June to 5 July 2026.

The two sides will contest a five-match series at the Queens Sports Club, with the matches being played on 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 September.

The first match will mark the first-ever T20I clash between the two countries’ senior women’s sides.

Historic moment for women’s cricket in Africa


"This is an important and exciting moment for women's cricket in Africa. As CSA, we are proud to be part of a historic occasion that not only expands international opportunities for the Proteas Women but also contributes to the continued growth and visibility of the women's game across the continent," said Pholetsi Moseki, CSA’s Chief Executive Officer.

"Zimbabwe Cricket has shown a strong commitment to the development of women's cricket, and we look forward to what we believe will be a competitive and meaningful series for both teams and their supporters."

"South Africa is one of the strongest teams in world cricket, and this tour presents our players with a valuable opportunity to test themselves against elite opposition in home conditions,” added Makoni.

"We believe these matches will contribute significantly to the development of our national team while also inspiring the next generation of women to take up the sport."
