South Africa vs Pakistan Predictions

Babar Azam was outstanding in the 3rd T20I against South Africa on Wednesday, scoring 122 off just 59 balls. He also scored 50 runs in the previous meeting of the sides, so my best bet is for Azam to score over 32.5 runs in the 4th T20I on Friday.

  • South Africa have lost 11 of their last 15 T20I matches.
  • South Africa’s Aiden Markram has scored 51, 54 & 65 runs in his last 3 T20I matches.
  • South Africa’s Aiden Markram has been the top team run scorer in his last 3 matches.
  • Pakistan have won 9 of their last 12 T20I matches.
  • Pakistan’s Babar Azam has been the top team batsman in the last 2 T20I matches.
  • Pakistan’s Babar Azam scored 50 & 122 runs in his last 2 T20I matches.
  • Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan has scored 104, 52, 42 & 74 runs in 4 of his last 5 T20I matches.

Head to Head

Pakistan have won five of their last eight T20I fixtures against South Africa. Pakistan lead the current series 2-1 after winning the 3rd T20I at Centurion by nine wickets.

South Africa Form

South Africa are 2-1 down in the series with one match to play. After leveling the series in the 2nd T20I, the hosts lost the third match by nine wickets at Centurion.

The batting hasn’t been a problem for the Proteas this series. Aiden Markram has led the charge with three successive 50+ scores to take South Africa over 200 runs in two of the three matches.

Unfortunately the inexperienced bowlers have suffered the wrath of the Pakistan batsmen. In the 3rd T20I, South Africa scored 203 runs. Markram top scored with 63 runs while Janneman Malan contributed 55 in 108-run opening stand.

The bowlers however struggled and only took one wicket as Pakistan won with two overs to spare. There will have to be major improvement if the hosts are to level the series again.

South Africa Injuries & Team News

South Africa made one change for the last match which saw Rassie van der Dussen return from injury to replace Wihan Lubbe.

There are more changes expected for the 4th T20I after a horror showing in the last match. Migael Pretorius and Lutho Sipamla should both get a run on the bowling front.

Pakistan Form

Pakistan have retaken the lead in the series with one match to play after winning by nine wickets at Centurion. South Africa batted first and scored 203 runs as the Pakistan bowlers once again struggled.

Mohammad Nawaz was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2-38 but still went at over nine runs to the over. The visitors showed their class with the bat as openers Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam put on an incredible partnership of 197 runs.

Azam top scored with 122 runs while Rizwan ended unbeaten on 73. Rizwan has now scored 50+ runs in four of his last 6 T20I while Babar Azam has scores of 94, 50 and 122 in three of his last four limited overs matches against South Africa.

Pakistan Injuries & Team News

Fakhar Zaman returned to the side in the 3rd T20 and is expected to retain his place. With the series  in the balance Pakistan should stick with the same side.

Verdict

Babar Azam is backed to build on his magnificent 122 runs from the last meeting of the sides by scoring over 32.5 runs and being Pakistan's best batsman on the day. He can also be backed in the man of the match market, which looks great value. Aiden Markram has been South Africa's best batsman in the last three games, so he is tipped to make it four in a row with another classy knock.
