South Africa enjoyed a brilliant ODI World Cup at the end of last year and should bring that confidence to bear against a Pakistan side that has struggled for runs and wins in whiteball cricket over the past two years.

South Africa followed their brilliant performance in the 2025 World Cup (losing to India in the final) by dominating Ireland in their 2-0 T20I series win, claiming victory by 105 and 65 runs in the first two matches, with the third match rained-off. 

Laura Wolvaardt had a phenomenal World Cup in 2025 and is ranked 5th in the ICC’s Women’s T20I batting rankings. Tazmin Brits has also been in brilliant form with the bat, while Annerie Dercksen (35, 23, 51 & 113) has been full of runs domestically. Dane van Niekerk has found form with the bat following her international recall, scoring 21*, 41 and 88 in her last four innings. 

The Proteas have two powerful all-rounders in Nadine de Klerk (2/17 & 4/20) and Marizanne Kapp, along with a deadly bowling attack that includes Ayabonga Khaka and Nonkululeko Mlaba.

Pakistan Women Form


Pakistan Women ended their four-match losing streak by winning the final T20 of their three-match series against Ireland by eight wickets.

Sidra Amin has scored 50*, 37*, 81 and 35 in her last seven matches. Aliya Riaz has scored 1,202 runs and taken 20 wickets in her 102 T20s but has struggled to reach the 40s, scoring 33, 23 and 28* in her last seven matches. 

Sadia Iqbal has returned figures of 1/32, 2/16 and 3/63 in her last three matches. Fatima Sana has been in form with the ball but the all-rounder has struggled to put runs on the board.

Proteas skipper Laura Wolvaardt was looking forward to the series against Pakistan when she spoke to the media ahead of the series against Pakistan. “Preparation has been awesome. The team arrived early, had some really good sessions and put in some hard yards. We’ve played a lot of T20 cricket lately, and the squad is looking really good, so it’s exciting. The World Cup is obviously massive for us this year, so any T20 game is great preparation for that. Every game we play now has that tournament in mind. That journey starts now. We want to play our best cricket and hopefully build some momentum heading into the World Cup,” said Wolvaardt.
