Australia started the first Test in great form, bowling first and dismissing India for 150 runs. It was a superb start which set them up for victory, however, the hosts’ batsmen failed to deliver.

In response to India’s 150, Australia were all out for 104 runs as Mitchell Starc top scored with 26 runs. The pitch flattened out thereafter which saw India amass a total of 487 before declaring.

Needing a very unlikely 534 to win, Australia lost their first four wickets for 17 runs and were five down for 79. Travis Head’s 80 along with some other lower order runs helped Australia to 238 before being all out and losing by 295 runs.

Scott Boland comes into the side to replace the injured Josh Hazelwood. The rest of the side looks very much the same.

India Form

In the first Test, India struggled initially, being bowled out for 150 runs. Nitish Kumar Reddy top scored with 41 runs. However, Jasprit Bumrah made light work of the Aussie batsmen, taking 5-30 as the hosts were all out for 104 runs.

India made the small lead count with Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a magnificent 161 runs. KL Rahul, his opening partner, scored 77 while Virat Kohli found some form with an impressive 100* off 143 balls.

Declaring on 487, India left the hosts with a huge 534-run chase. Bumrah took three wickets in the second innings, as did Mohammed Siraj as Australia were all out for 238 runs.
