England will be determined to bounce back in the 2nd Test against the West Indies at Old Trafford, which starts on Thursday, 16 July. The visitors were the underdogs in the 1st Test, but upset the odds. Joe Root is available again for England, while Ben Stokes is in great form with the bat.

England Form & News

England will be smarting after losing the 1st Test Match. In many regards, it was an humiliating defeat to the West Indies. It started to go wrong right from the toss, with Ben Stokes electing to bat.

England were skittled for just 204 runs, with Ben Stokes top scoring with 43 runs. The West Indies then posted 318 runs, before England responded with 313 runs of their own. Zach Crawley was excellent with the bat and scored 76 runs.

The defence of just 200 runs was always going to be a big ask, despite England starting well with ball in hand. In the end, the Windies managed to win by four wickets on the final day.

The biggest change will see Joe Root return to captain while Ben Stokes will continue his duties as vice-captain. Joe Denly is likely to be the batsman who makes way while Zach Crawley should move up to bat at three.

Stuart Broad should return at the expense of Jofra Archer or Mark Wood.

West Indies Form & News

The West Indies were big underdogs going into the 1st Test with England, but upset the odds with a four-wicket win at the Ageas Bowl. Jason Holder grabbed figures of 6-42 as the West Indies removed England for just 204 runs in the first innings.

Kraigg Brathwaite scored a stready 65 runs as the West Indies posted an impressive 318 runs, which saw them take a 114-run lead into the second innings. Shannon Gabriel was rampant as he took 5-75 to restrict England to 313 runs. This meant the Windies required 200 runs for victory.

A rough start with the bat in the final innings saw them stumble to 27-3, but Jermaine Blackwood’s 95 runs picked the side up and led the Windies to an historic victory.

The West Indies will not want to tinker with a winning combination, but opening batsman John Campbell suffered a possible hamstring injury. He might miss out in the 2nd Test.

England vs West Indies Head to Head

England have an 11-6 advantage in matches against the West Indies, along with seven draws in their last 24 Test match meetings.

Their previous meeting took place last week, with the West Indies upsetting the odds and claiming a four-wicket win at the Ageas Bowl.

England vs West Indies Odds

England are priced as huge favourites at 1.33, while the West Indies are available at 5.50. A draw pays 8.00.

Joe Root looks great value at 3.50 to be England’s top batsman in the 1st innings, while Ben Stokes is availavle at 5.00 in the same market.

England vs West Indies Match Up

England lacked quality with the bat in the 1st Test Match, so the return of Joe Root is a welcome one.

For the West Indies, they will be hoping for more of the same, but that is a big ask against a wounded England with their superstar Root back in the ranks.
