India vs England Predictions

India have won the series, but I don’t expect that to reduce the competitiveness of the final game. England in particular will be desperate to get another positive result before returning home. The value is in the run scoring markets though with Yashasvi Jaiswal in superb form.

  • India have won 18 of their last 23 Test matches at home.
  • India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 80, 209, 214 & 73 runs in his last 4 Test matches.
  • England have lost 10 of their last 13 Test matches in India.
  • England’s Joe Root scored 122 runs in the 1st innings of the last Test.

Head to Head

India hold an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match Test series. They have won the last three games, the last of which was by five wickets.

India Form

After losing the first Test of the series, India have been pretty immaculate since. They have won the last three games, and while England have kept it largely competitive, India have largely dominated.

In the third Test, India bowled first with England scoring 353 runs. India struggled in response, but Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his good form with 73 runs. It was up to Dhruv Jurel (90) to get India close to England’s score though. However, the hosts did concede a deficit of 46 runs.

Ravi Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav then produced a superb bowling effort, taking five and four wickets respectively as England were bowled out for 145 runs. That left India needing 192 to win the match and the series.

Rohit Sharma scored 55 runs while Shubman Gill ended not out with a patient 52. After a good start, India lost five wickets for 40 runs, but Dhuruv Jurel again stood firm lower down the order to secure a home win.

India Injuries & Team News

Pitch conditions will play a role in selection but mostly India should remain unchanged.

England Form

England will be kicking themselves for how this series has gone. After winning the first Test, they have been in the game for most of the other three Tests. However, the big moments have always been won by India.

In the fourth Test, England won the toss and batted first. They could only score 353 runs, which really isn’t enough to put pressure on the hosts. Joe Root bated superbly for his 122 runs but only one other batsman passed the 50-run mark.

A good bowling effort still secured England a first innings lead of 47 runs, something they failed to build on. Zak Crawley scored 60 but no one else managed more than 30 as the visitors were bundled out for 145 runs.

India looked to be cruising to the 192 runs needed for victory at 84-0 but then Shoaib Bashir and co took five quick wickets.

England Injuries & Team News

While the Test series is lost, England will still want to put in a big performance. They have competed better than most in India. I don’t foresee too many changes to their side.

Verdict

I am backing Yashasvi Jaiswal to score 50+ in the first innings and top score for India.

For England, Joe Root is tipped in the best batsman market.
