Race 1 – Siyabambelela (10)

Siyabambelela, Tipperary, Miss Danon and Wedding Vow are the only runners in the field of 11 with a second-place finish. The 5-yr-old bay filly Siyabambelela has had a 32-day break from the track on the back of finishes of 3-5-3-3-2.

Her consistency offers the promise of a maiden win, although Northern European has yet to have a top-three finish but looks a strong runner and could be pushing Siyabambelela for the line.

Race 4 – Peeping Tom (4)

A field of seven looks setup for a two-way sprint between Vixens War and Peeping Tom. Vixens War has finished 2-3-4-2 in her last four races and is the bookies’ pick after Takethegreenlight, who has run 4-4-4 but is highly rated.

I’m liking the look of Peeping Tom, who finished fourth four races ago but ran in second in his last two outings. The 4-yr-old chestnut gelding put in a powerful late charge in his last run to pull from back in the pack to lose out on first place by a nose, so with a better start I’m picking him for first place

Race 7 – Next of Kin (2)

We could be in for a thrilling sprint finish in this exciting field. Seven horses in the field of 10 have wins in their last five races. World of Our Own and Basie Raakvat have both won their last two outings and Piper Piper comes into the meet with a first place followed by second, but Next of Kin has my attention.

The 4-yr-old grey gelding has come in the top three in more than half of his 11 career runs, with one win, four seconds and a third. After finishing last in a field of eight on 2 January he was given a 52-day break and since then has run 5-4-3-2-2, so I’m liking his consistency and form.

Race 9 – Winter Blessing (8)

Jockey: Dezahn Louw

Trainer: Michael Roberts

The race day ends with what looks set up for a thrilling race, with a posse of four pushing for the tape. Chara Sands is top of the odds at 4.00 for the win, but the 8-yr-old bay gelding’s run of 3-5-2-2 was followed by eighth place in his last outing.

Zoombomber has had just two top-three finishes in his last six runs but does tend to run well at Greyville poly, although he tends to either run seven of lower or hit the top three. Winter Blessing is such a consistent runner, hitting finishes of 3-2-2-2-1 in her last five runs at Greyville, and while the bookmakers have high odds on her winning, I’m backing her to take the tape.
