South African bookmaker YesPlay has strengthened its presence in local sport after agreeing a four-year sponsorship deal with the Western Province Cricket Association, which includes naming rights to Newlands Cricket Ground and sponsorship of the newly launched Western Province Cobras.

The iconic Cape Town venue will now be known as YesPlay Newlands, with the agreement marking another significant sports sponsorship for the betting operator.

The deal also extends beyond the stadium, with Western Province Cricket launching the YesPlay Western Province Cobras, bringing the province's men's and women's professional teams together under a single identity.

The Newlands agreement represents another major investment in South African sport from YesPlay, which has steadily increased its sponsorship presence during 2026.

The bookmaker previously secured title sponsorship of the YesPlay Cup between the Springboks and Barbarians in Gqeberha in June, which also saw the YesPlay brand feature on the Barbarians' jerseys.

Cape Town-based YesPlay is licensed by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board and its latest partnership gives the operator a significant presence within cricket in its home province.

New investment planned for YesPlay Newlands

The sponsorship will support continued development of Newlands, with improvements planned across several areas of the historic ground.

Recent and proposed upgrades include hospitality facilities, seating and accessibility, lift infrastructure, sound and emergency evacuation systems, food and beverage areas and facilities used by players and match officials.

There are also plans to develop Newlands beyond cricket, with the WPCA looking to establish the venue as a year-round entertainment and lifestyle destination capable of hosting concerts and other events.

The partnership arrives ahead of a busy 2026/27 cricket season at Newlands, which is set to feature international tours involving Australia, Bangladesh, India Women and England alongside domestic cricket.

Western Province Cobras name returns

The sponsorship coincides with a new identity for Western Province's professional cricket teams.

The YesPlay Western Province Cobras name combines the Western Province identity with the Cape Cobras legacy, with both the men's and women's teams operating under

the new brand.

YesPlay CEO Tebogo Makamo described the agreement as an opportunity to become involved in the next chapter of Western Province Cricket rather than simply placing the

company's name on the stadium.

The four-year agreement will see YesPlay branding incorporated across both Newlands and the Western Province Cobras as the bookmaker continues to expand its involvement in South African sport.
