Western Province vs Boland Predictions

Boland don’t have to travel far for this Cape Town derby. They should fancy themselves, but this is the final game of the season, and a win will secure them second place at the very least. I am backing Boland to get the job done.

Western Province have been atrocious this season and are currently bottom of the Currie Cup table. They may be the most successful Currie Cup side in history, but they are not showing any of that quality in 2025.

It all began with a home defeat to the Buls before losing by 40-19 at the Lions. That was followed by a 47-17 hammering by Griquas. They were better against the Cheetahs but still lost 31-24.

In round five, Province came up against a Sharks side that, like them, lost their opening four games. But the Sharks won the match 29-21. Last week Western Province were hammered at home by the Pumas.

Boland Form

Boland are Western Province rivals, both unions exist in the same province. However, Boland has always been the small brother despite producing much of the region’s talent.

In 2025, however, the script has been changed. Boland, newly promoted to the Currie Cup, has shown their quality throughout the season, challenging for a top two finish.

A massive upset in round one saw Boland win 27-25 at home to the Cheetahs. They lost in round two to Griquas but then beat the Lions and Bulls on successive weekends. They made it three in a row when they won their first away match of the season against the Pumas 29-26.

Unfortunately, last week, Boland went down 33-31 to the struggling Sharks, the first sign that the pressure and inexperience of the side has gotten to the players.
