At the start of the campaign, Tasman were the favourites to win the NPC, and they are still very much expected to challenge for the title. They started the season with a poor defeat but won four in a row thereafter.

A fortnight ago, Tasman, however, faltered at home, losing 29-21 to Auckland, a team that couldn’t buy a win up to that point. Last week, in a cracking contest, Tasman lost 31-25 to Canterbury.

Waikato Form

Waikato will be eager to get a couple of good results in the final two weeks. They are seventh on the table with four wins and three losses but have two less bonus points than their opponents.

Inconsistent results has plagued the Hamilton-based outfit this season. After beating Counties Manukau and Taranaki, Waikato lost at home to Southland and away to Manawatu.

Last weekend, Waikato managed to get back to winning ways with the narrowest of wins (29-28) at home against a struggling North Harbour side.
