Northampton Saints vs Leicester Tigers Predictions

The Northampton Saints have played their best rugby at home in the Premiership this season, and are on a winning streak at their stadium. The Leicester Tigers have been prone to inconsistent performances on the road during their campaign and lost away to the Saints earlier this season.

  • Northampton have won 8 consecutive home games (PREM).
  • Northampton have won 2 consecutive home matches against Leicester (PREM).
  • Leicester Tigers have lost 5 of their last 9 away fixtures (PREM).

Head to Head

The Leicester Tigers have the advantage with 30 victories to 17 against Northampton Saints, including one draw in 48 meetings.

Northampton defeated the Leicester Tigers 32-26 at home in the Premiership earlier this season.

Northampton Saints Form

Following an excellent campaign, the Northampton Saints finished the regular season as the leading team in the PREM, securing a home semi-final as a reward for their efforts.

The Saints ended in first place in the Premiership Rugby table with 74 points from 18 matches. They won 14 games, lost three, and drew one.

Northampton have been in outstanding form at home in the league this season. They drew 33-33 with Exeter before beating the Leicester Tigers 32-26, Saracens 43-31, Sale Sharks 47-21, Harlequins 66-21, Newcastle 28-27, Bath 41-38, Bristol 94-33, and Gloucester 36-32.

The Northampton Saints will fancy their chances against the Leicester Tigers in the semi-finals, having gone unbeaten at home in the Premiership this season, which includes an impressive eight consecutive victories at their stadium.

Leicester Tigers Form

Leicester did enough to hold off the challenge of Bristol and Saracens during the second half of the season to secure their place in this season's semi-finals.

The Leicester Tigers finished fourth in the Premiership Rugby standings during the regular season, with 63 points from 18 games. They won 12 matches and lost six.

The Tigers have achieved mixed results away from home in the league this season. They lost 42-24 to Bristol, 32-26 to Northampton Saints, defeated Newcastle 39-17, lost 24-10 to Exeter, beat Harlequins 36-7, and Gloucester 36-17, lost 19-15 to Saracens, and then defeated Sale Sharks 47-33 before losing to Bath 24-22.

The Leicester Tigers have a tough assignment ahead if they are to secure a semi-final victory over the Northampton Saints, as their opponents have been playing excellent rugby at home, winning eight matches in a row, including a record-breaking victory over Bristol.

Team News

Northampton Saints

Director of Rugby Phil Dowson has stated that his side will be well prepared for the clash with rivals the Leicester Tigers on Friday: “It’s great from a fan's point of view, but fundamentally we need to play the Leicester Tigers who are going to turn up on Friday night.

“That means learning our lessons from last time, preparing thoroughly, as we always do, and making sure our house is in order for Friday night.”

Leicester Tigers

Head Coach Geoff Parling has highlighted the need for his team to keep their heads in their semi-final match against Northampton Saints: “We’ve been the most disciplined team in the league in terms of penalties conceded. When I say basics are important, discipline is definitely included in that.

“It’s important to stay clear in the head. We speak about being calm, clear and decisive. You can’t be ragged up top, you can have your heart burning but your head’s got to be nice and clear.”

Verdict

The Northampton Saints have been in fine form at home in the Premiership this season and are tipped to cover the -6.5 handicap in their East Midlands derby semi-final match against the Leicester Tigers.
