Scarlets had a reasonable season last time out, finishing behind Munster and Connacht in Conference B. They won eight of their 16 fixtures but only managed seven bonus points throughout the competition.

During more recent Rainbow Cup, Scarlets finished seventh despite only winning one of their five matches. They also drew on two occasions but it was a tournament played without international players.

Scarlets didn’t get this season off to the best of starts as they went down 26-22 to Edinburgh away last weekend. The losing bonus point will be of some consolation as they look to gain maximum points against the Lions.

The Lions came into the United Rugby Championship under huge pressure after a very disappointing Currie Cup campaign. Finishing bottom was their worst finish in the last half a decade.

The Johannesburg-based outfit must have felt all their worries disappear after a magnificent first half against Zebre last weekend. They were up by more than 30 points at the break.

It Italians however fought back in the second half which saw the Lions escape with a 38-26 victory. Still, not much can be read into that with Zebre easily the worst side in the competition. Scarlets in Wales will offer a far different threat.
