The Stormers and Ospreys meet in round two of the United Rugby Championship after both teams impressed in their openers. The Stormers are favourites at home, buoyed by a commanding 35-0 win over Leinster. Ospreys, despite a 53-40 defeat to the Bulls, showed attacking promise and have beaten the Stormers in their last encounter. Both sides are missing key internationals but are expected to field similar teams. The handicap is set at 14.5 points in favour of the Stormers, but Ospreys are tipped to keep the margin close under Cape Town conditions.

Stormers vs Ospreys Predictions

Both sides were very impressive in round one for different reasons. The Stormers are favourites at home with the handicap set at 14.5.

That looks a good handicap, but I do feel the market may be overreacting to the Stormers impressive win against a poor Leinster side. I am leaning towards Ospreys to cover that.

  • Stormers won their last match 35-0.
  • Ospreys lost 53-40 to the Bulls in their last match.
  • Ospreys beat the Stormers in their last meeting.

Head to Head

The Stormers lost 37-24 at the Ospreys last season.

Stormers Form

The Stormers got their 2025/26 United Rugby Championship off to an incredible start last weekend, claiming a bonus point to top the table after the first round.

Not much could or should be read into one result in a 15-match season, but it was a very good start. The Stormers were underdogs against the defending champions, Leinster, but given the teams selected, it was always going to be a tough one to call.

Neither team is remotely near full strength at the moment, so in the coming weeks, there will be plenty of different faces. However, the job still needed to be done, and John Dobson’s side were very impressive in their 35-0 romp of Leinster.

Stormers Injuries & Team News

The Stormers internationals are still missing with the Rugby Championship in the final week. I expect a similar side to last Friday.

Ospreys Form

Ospreys had a decent campaign last season and will certainly be looking for some sort of improvement this time around. If round one is anything to go by, we could see a solid season from the Welsh side.

Going into the match against three-time URC runners-up at Loftus, not many gave the Welsh giants a chance. However, they produced some excellent rugby against a strong, but not full-strength Bulls side.

At half time, the Ospreys held the lead. They went on to lose 53-40 but scoring 40 away from home was a very impressive outcome.

Ospreys Injuries & Team News

With it only being round two, players should all be pretty fresh for this game. I expect a few tweaks to the side but not wholesale changes.

Verdict

Cape Town won’t be anything like Pretoria last week, but the conditions are probably more what the Ospreys are used to. I fancy the visitors to get within 14.5 points.
