Hurricanes vs Blues Predictions

This is a very tough fixture to call. The Blues are slight favourites with a four-point handicap, but the Hurricanes are a tough nut to crack at the Sky Stadium. Both sides come into this off the back of two victories, so I’m leaning towards the hosts to cause an upset.

Hurricanes have won 7 of their last 9 matches at Sky Stadium.
Hurricanes have averaged over 6 tries per game in their last 9 matches at Sky Stadium.
Blues have won 6 of their last 8 matches against the Hurricanes.

Head to Head

The Blues have won six of their last eight matches against the Hurricanes, including the last two.

Hurricanes Form

The Hurricanes have started the 2024 season on fire with two wins in their opening two fixtures. They picked up a bonus point victory in round one when they thrashed the Western Force 44-14 away from home.

Last week, in Melbourne, things were a lot tighter against the Reds. The Canes outscored the Queensland outfit by six tries to five in an absolute thriller that ended 38-33.

It was an exciting contest between two sides wanting to give the ball some air. The Canes only missed 17 tackles whilst making 191. However, conceding five tries will still be a slight concern ahead of this week.

Blues Form

The Blues, like their opponents, have started the season in close to perfect fashion. They have won both games with relative ease.

In round one, the Auckland side were clinical in a 34-10 victory over Fijian Drua on home soil. They faced the Highlanders in Melbourne last weekend, a game they won 37-29.

The Blues made a slow start to the fixture but dominated the middle period. They then allowed the Highlanders back into it late on but did enough to hold on for the points.

Verdict

Hurricanes v Blues

I am backing the Hurricanes to get inside the four-point handicap and perhaps win at home.
