Algeria have been in great form over the last 24 months, qualifying for the FIFA World Cup with ease. They have also played quite a bit more football in the lead up to AFCON than most other teams.

During the recent Arab Cup, Algeria performed below their expected standard, reaching the quarter-final where they were knocked out by United Arab Emirates on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

During the group stage, Algeria drew 0-0 with Sudan, beat Bahrain 5-1 and saw off Iraq 2-0 in the final group game.

Sudan Form

Sudan were miles off the pace in their 2026 World Cup qualifiers earlier this year. They were never really expected to threaten qualification though.

Like their opponents for this AFCON fixture, Sudan also competed in the Arab Cup earlier this month. They were very impressive in their opening game, holding Algeria to a 0-0 draw.

However, thereafter things went awry as Sudan lost 2-0 to Iraq and 3-1 to Bahrain. They failed to get out of the group stage.
