Kaba Diawara’s side ended the group stage with a 2-0 defeat against Senegal. Serhou Guirassy replaced Mohamed Bayo up front but it made little difference.

Bayo came back into the starting side in the Round of 16 clash against Equatorial Guinea. Guinea played against 10 men for the final 35 minutes, capitalising deep into added time when Bayo found the net.
