Senegal are the defending Africa Cup of Nations champions and are expected to be right up there challenging again this time around. Prior to AFCON, Senegal beat South Sudan 4-0 at home and drew 0-0 in Togo in World Cup qualifiers.

They played one friendly ahead of the tournament, beating Niger 1-0. Senegal then their title defence underway with a convincing 3-0 win against Gambia.

Pape Gueye opened the scoring in the fourth minute before Gambia had a man sent off just before halftime. Lamine Camara scored a second half brace to secure a comfortable win for the African champions.

Cameroon hosted the last AFCON and finished third in the competition. They will be looking for a similar performance this time around.

The Indomitable Lions lost a friendly to Senegal 1-0 in October last year before they beat Mauritius and drew away in Libya during World Cup qualifiers. Cameroon also drew 1-1 in their friendly against Cameroon ahead of AFCON.

Cameroon kicked off their AFCON campaign with a disappointing 1-1 draw against 10-man Guinea. Guinea took the lead in the 10th minute but had a man sent off just before the break.

That gave Cameroon the impetus in the second half to push for the equaliser and then the win. Frank Magri leveled the game after 51 minutes, but Cameroon couldn’t make any further inroads.
