Sierra Leone are officially the home side, although the match will be played in El Jadida because the country does not currently have a CAF-approved stadium.

Thursday's AFCON qualifier in Morocco will therefore be the first documented meeting between the two countries.

Sierra Leone Form

Sierra Leone have played just three internationals this year, with their most recent matches coming against Liberia in June.

They began the year with a 1–1 draw against Azerbaijan in the FIFA Series in March, eventually losing 9–8 in a penalty shootout.

Sierra Leone returned to action in June with a 1–0 victory over Liberia before losing the return match 3–1 three days later.

Their previous competitive campaign ended in October 2025, when they lost 1–0 to Burkina Faso before beating Djibouti 2–1 in their final two World Cup qualifiers.

Zimbabwe Form

Zimbabwe have produced some encouraging results in their four internationals this year, winning three and losing one.

They began with a 3–0 victory over Botswana in March before beating Zambia 1–0 three days later.

Zimbabwe returned to action in May with a 2–0 defeat against Nigeria but responded by beating India 1–0 in their most recent match.

They will now begin a new era under Ramon Catalá, with the Spaniard taking charge of his first competitive match since being appointed in August.

Sierra Leone: Emmanuel Samadia has withdrawn from the squad through injury, with Middlesbrough defender Alex Bangura called up as his replacement. Hindolo Mustapha has also been ruled out, with Kallum Ceesay replacing him in the squad.

Zimbabwe: Zimbabwe have suffered several injury setbacks ahead of the qualifier. Tino Kadewere and Prince Dube have both withdrawn after picking up injuries, while Jordan Zemura was already ruled out of the squad. Washington Navaya and Leroy Mavunga have subsequently been called up. Zimbabwe began training in Morocco this week under new coach Ramon Catalá.

Zimbabwe are in good form coming into this clash and will want to maintain momentum. I'd still lean towards a draw not bet, despite Sierra Leone not actually playing at home.
