English Premier League Predictions, Matchday 13

Crystal Palace v Manchester United

Crystal Palace have quietly climbed to 5th with just two league defeats and only nine goals conceded in 12 games – plus four wins in their last five games in all competitions, including a tidy 2–0 stroll at Wolves and a 2–0 home win over Brentford. They have also beaten United in three of their last four clashes, along with a draw.

United haven’t won in three League matches but remain stuck at 10th, with a flat 19:19 goal difference and only one win in their last 11 away Premier League games. With Palace so solid at Selhurst Park and United still flaky on the road, this feels more like a home-or-draw affair than a return to the Old Trafford swagger.

West Ham v Liverpool

West Ham come in from a rollercoaster run: two home wins over Burnley (3–2) and Newcastle (3–1), a draw at Bournemouth and two defeats, leaving them 17th but proving they can score plenty at the London Stadium. Liverpool, by contrast, are in full-blown wobble mode – nine defeats in their last 12 in all competitions, six losses in their last seven league games and three-goal beatings by Nottingham Forest, Manchester City and PSV in their last three matches.

With West Ham both leaky and dangerous and Liverpool defending like strangers, this screams goals and a messy, high-energy contest where the Hammers look much more attractive on the handicap than the Reds do at a short price.

Nottingham Forest v Brighton

Forest may be 16th, but recent results are far livelier than the table suggests: a stunning 3–0 win at Anfield, a 3–1 home victory over Leeds, draws with Sturm Graz and Manchester United, and just one defeat in their last six in all competitions.

Brighton are ticking along nicely in 6th with 19 points, and their last seven League games show exactly what you’d expect from a team in their position – four wins (including 3–0 over Leeds and 2–1 over Brentford), two draws and one loss. With both sides trending upwards and neither shy of a shot, this feels like a tight, attacking game where Brighton’s extra quality nudges things towards the kind of narrow 2–1 away win the models are leaning to.

Chelsea v Arsenal

Chelsea have gone from chaos to contenders: second in the table with 23 points, only 11 goals conceded and a sparkling run of five wins and a draw in their last six in all competitions, the last three all won by at least two goals. They have also scored in each of their last 18 games in all competitions.
Arsenal arrive as league leaders and Europe’s form side – nine wins, two draws and one defeat in the league, just six conceded, unbeaten in 15 across all competitions (13 wins) and fresh from dismantling Bayern 3–1 to make it five wins from five in the Champions League.

The Gunners are also unbeaten in their last six trips to Stamford Bridge, winning three of them, so even with Chelsea resurgent this still feels like a slight edge to Arteta’s ruthless, defensively rock-solid machine in what could be a cagey, high-quality 90 minutes.

Verdict

Crystal Palace to roll Manchester United over, West Ham to give Liverpool plenty of headaches at the back.

Brighton to cut high-flying Forest down, while it’s a battle royale at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea attempt to stave off fully-loaded Arsenal.
