World Cup Qualifiers Europe Predictions

  • World Cup Qualifiers Europe Predictions
  • Iceland v France
  • North Macedonia v Kazakhstan
  • Ukraine v Azerbaijan
  • Wales v Belgium

Iceland v France

With three wins from three in qualifying, France are going to be too tough for Iceland, and their record of won four, drawn one against Iceland augurs well for France, who banged in 14 goals in those last five games, with Iceland replying with five. France beat Iceland 2-1 at home a month ago after Iceland put five past Azerbaijan… but three days ago they lost 5-3 at home to Ukraine. France should take this with a goal or two to spare, but I’m going to back a draw as Iceland put the pressure on Ukraine for a World Cup place.

North Macedonia v Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan have goals in them, but they are leaky at the back, and North Macedonia should punish them. North Macedonia are on the verge of an historic first qualification for the World Cup and after a magnificent goalless draw against a game Belgium side, I see them seeing Kazakhstan out by a two-goal margin.

Ukraine v Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan needs to win to get back into the battle for a World Cup spot, so they are likely to take some chances against a Ukraine side they held to a 1-1 draw at home. Ukraine come into the match on the back of a 5-3 away win over Iceland, while Azerbaijan lost 3-0 to France. I see a tight match that Ukraine will take with possibly the only goal of the match.

Wales v Belgium

Belgium are fat with goals, netting 17-4 in their five qualifying games for three wins and two draws. Wales have a similar record, but with a weaker goal difference. Belgium beat Wales 4-3 at home back in June, but come into this match on the back of two 6-0 victories and an impressive goalless draw with top-of-the-table North Macedonia. Wales lace up for this tie on the back of two friendly defeats in a row that saw them fail to find the net. This should be a two-goal-plus win for a powerful Belgium side.

Verdict

Iceland to upset the formbook against France, and North Macedonia to put down a deposit on their first World Cup performance.

Ukraine to work hard for their points against Azerbaijan, and Belgium to crack a struggling Welsh side.
