Cameroon vs China Predictions - China to keep it tight against Indomitable Lions

In an intriguing first-ever encounter, Cameroon will face China, as both teams bring contrasting forms into the match. Cameroon, struggling with consistency, has secured only three wins in their last eight matches, showing concern at both ends of the pitch. Meanwhile, China comes in with confidence, maintaining an unbeaten run in their last four matches. As Cameroon grapples with unavailability in their attacking lineup, China leverages their defensive solidity exhibited in recent fixtures. The match promises to be competitive, with a slight edge anticipated for the Chinese side.

Cameroon have not been particularly convincing of late, particularly in front of goal. China on the other hand have improved, so I believe they will make it tough for Cameroon in Australia.

Key Stats - Unbeaten in Four for China

  • China are unbeaten in their last 4 matches
  • Cameroon failed to win by more than 1 goal in their last 8 matches
  • Cameroon failed to win 5 of their last 8 matches

First-Ever Clash

This will be the first-ever encounter between Cameroon and China.

Cameroon Form Dodgy

Cameroon face their second FIFA Series fixture after a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Australia last week. Jordan Bos's third international goal secured a deserved win for the Socceroos.

A lacklustre attacking display saw Cameroon register just seven shots, while generating a minimal xG of 0.11.

David Pagou's side had not played since a 2-0 defeat against Morocco in the quarter-finals of the recent AFCON.

An inconsistent run has seen the African nation win only three of their last eight internationals. A lack of quality in the final third remains a major concern, with just six goals scored in those fixtures.

China Unbeaten in Four

China return to FIFA Series action on Tuesday after a surprise 2-0 win against World Cup-bound Curacao last week.

Shihao Wei opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time before Zhang Yuning's ninth international goal sealed an impressive victory for Shao Jiayi's side.

Despite being ranked 12 places lower, China were worthy winners on the day. Shao Jiayi’s side restricted their Caribbean opponents to just six shots and an xG of 0.21.

An improved run of form over the past nine months has seen the Dragon Team win three and lose just two of their last six matches. China also picked up positive results against higher-ranked opponents Uzbekistan (2-2) and Bahrain (1-0).

Cameroon vs China Predicted Lineups and News

Cameroon (3-4-2-1) Devis Epassy; Che Malone, Samuel Kotto, Emmanuel Moungam; Saidou Alioum Moubarak, Arthur Avom, Arnold Mael Kamdem, Darlin Yongwa; Ryan Fosso, Danny Namaso; Matah Yondjio

Head coach David Pagou could make a couple of changes to his XI this week. Saidou Alioum Moubarak and Matah Yondjio are in line to start after their second-half introductions last time out.

Bryan Mbeumo is unavailable after being forced out of the squad that faced Australia. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Vincent Aboubakar and Christian Bassogog are further notable absentees from the Cameroon forward line.

Speaking after the match, Pagou questioned the substitution rules in the defeat against Australia.

“They make ten substitutions (the Socceroos actually made eight substitutions). We don’t know that because the regulations say that there are only five substitutes,” Pagou told reporters in his post-match press conference.

China (4-4-2) Yan Junling; Alex Yang, Zhu Chenjie, Liu Haofan, Liu Yang; Baihelamu Abuduwaili, Xu Bin, Wang Shangyuan, Wang Yudong; Zhang Yuning, Wei Shihao

Head coach Shao Jiayi is likely to make one change to his XI, with Baihelamu Abuduwaili in line to start after his half-time introduction in place of Xie Wenneng.

Verdict

Cameroon have several key attackers unavailable and may struggle to break down a Chinese side boosted by last week's win against Curacao.

I expect the Asian side to keep this competitive and avoid defeat by more than one goal on Tuesday.
