Bundesliga Predictions - Matchday 33

With two matches to play there’s a big battle on for Champions League places as well as a fight to avoid relegation. The bottom two sides will be automatically relegated, but third-from-bottom has the chance for a home-and-away playoff match against the third-placed side in Bundesliga 2, with the winner playing in the premier Bundesliga next season.

Hoffenheim vs Werder Bremen

Hoffenheim are level with Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart for the last Champions League spot, but they’re 4-plus goals behind on goal difference. Werder Bremen are six points ahead of 16th-placed Wolfsburg and need one point for safety.

Hoffenheim have two wins and two draws in their last four matches, while Werder Bremen have just four points from their last five matches. Werder Bremen have been goalless in five of their last 10 matches on the road and have picked up just two wins, both of which were against sides in the bottom six of the Bundesliga.

Hoffenheim have just one win at home in their last six matches but are undefeated in their last two, and given that they’re unbeaten in their last four home and away I’m backing them for three points and a clean sheet.

Stuttgart vs Bayer Leverkusen

The visitors are in the 4th Champions League place but only above Stuttgart on goal difference. With Hoffenheim also on 58 points this is a must-win for both sides in order to go into the final match with their Champions League destiny in their own hands.

Bayer Leverkusen come into the match in great form, with four wins in their last five matches while Stuttgart have just five points from their last five outings. Stuttgart have six wins and a draw from their last 10 matches at home, while Bayer Leverkusen have lost just twice on the road in their last 10.

Leverkusen have also won three and drawn two of their last six on the road, so I’m backing them to be too strong to lose. With Stuttgart’s strong home form I can only think this is headed for a draw.

Wolfsburg vs Bayern Munich

Wolfsburg will want two big wins to break out of 16th place, but they would need Werder Bremen or FC Koln to lose both their matches. Their bigger concern is retaining 16th place for a chance for the relegation play-off double-header, with St Pauli level with them on points but behind on goal difference.

Bayern have had an incredible season and have lost just once in the Bundesliga this season, while Wolfsburg have 16 defeats from 32 matches. Despite being winless in their last three matches after their disappointing semi-final double-headers against PSG, I can’t see Bayern letting this match slide.

Wolfsburg have lost five and drawn two of their last seven matches at home, while Bayern have won 15 of their last 18 matches on the road, losing just once. With Wolfsburg being desperate for the win and having scored 14 goals in their last 10 home matches, I’m backing the home side to bag a goal or two while still tasting defeat.

RB Leipzig vs St. Pauli

Leipzig could finish anywhere from 2nd place down to 6th depending on how results go, so they will be on high alert as they take on a St Pauli side sitting in the automatic relegation places. St Pauli are equal on points with Wolfsburg but three goals behind on goal difference, so it’s a must-win for them.

Sadly for St Pauli I think it’s a defeat loading against them, as they’ve been winless in their last eight matches, losing five and going goalless in four of those matches. They have also lost seven of their last nine matches on the road.

Leipzig lost away to Bayer Leverkusen in their last match, but before that they had won seven of eight matches, so it’s a clear win ahead for Leipzig, and another clean sheet.

Verdict

Wins for Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich, while Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen to battle out a draw.
