The Sea Robbers sit six points clear at the top of the PSL table having played a match more than Mamelodi Sundowns. Their last 14 league fixtures have seen 12 wins and two draws.

They drew 0-0 at Sekhukhune United and won 2-0 at home to Magesi with 3.33 xG produced. A 2-0 win at AmaZulu saw them dominate 18-3 on shots. 

Pirates beat first division side TTM 4-1 in the Nedbank Cup. On Saturday, they cruised past Marumo Gallants in a 3-0 home win with a 24-4 shot count. 

Four Wins in Nine – Sundowns Can’t Afford a Loss


Sundowns have won just four of their last nine fixtures in all competitions. They progressed to the CAF Champions League knockout stages, but sit six points off Pirates in the title race. 

A 2-2 home draw vs Al-Hilal Omdurman was followed by a 2-0 at Sekhukhune United. A shock 2-1 defeat away to Al-Hilal was followed by a 2-1 home win over Gomora United in the Nedbank Cup.

Their last two matches were in the CAF Champions League. They drew 1-1 in Congo vs St Eloi Lupopo before beating MC Alger 2-0 on Saturday with just two shots on target allowed.

Orlando Pirates (4-2-3-1): Chaine; Van Rooyen, Seema, Sibisi, Hotto; Makhaula, Nemjatela; Moremi, Appollis, Mofokeng; Makgopa.

Deon Hotto is expected to be recalled in defence for this one. Oswin Appollis could play as the number ten in preference to Patrick Maswanganyi.

The centre forward position is a question mark. Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou could go with Yanela Mbuthuma or Evidence Makgopa, or even use a false nine. 

Mamelodi Sundowns (4-2-3-1): Williams; Mudua, Kekana, Ndamane, Modiba; Mokoena, Allende; Morena, Santos, Matthews; Leon.

Coach Miguel Cardoso has Nuno Santos available in midfield after suspension. Arthur Sales is an injury doubt after his early withdrawal on Saturday. 

Right back Zuko Mdunyelwa is out injured, as is central defender Keanu Cupido. Bathusi Aubaas is suspended in the engine room.
