Surrey have enjoyed good form this season, but they need to beat Hampshire and hope Notts implode in their final match against Warwickshire for them to have a chance of snatching the title.

Hampshire completed a run of six drawn matches in a row when they drew with Somerset.

Hampshire were up against it from the start after Somerset posted 454/8 declared in their first innings. Kyle Abbott (2/101) and Keith Barker (2/41) were the pick of the Hampshire bowlers.

Hampshire were rolled for 172 in their first innings, and following on clung to the draw at 201/8 when the match ran out. Washington Sundar’s second-innings 46 was Hampshire’s highest score in either innings.

Surrey Form

Having picked up three draws and a win in their previous four games, Surrey lost to title rivals Nottinghamshire by 20 runs in a thrilling finish to the second last game of the season.

After being behind on the first innings, Surrey put on a daring chase to score 315 in the fourth innings, falling just 20 runs short. Matthew Fisher (5/61 & 6/73) starred with the ball for Surrey, but only Dan Lawrence (50 off 56 balls) reached 50 in either innings.

Notts’ win has given them a 14-point lead coming into this last match of the season so Surrey will need to go flat out for a win, but the weather looks to be on their side.

To fill their gap, Surrey have brought Indian spinner Rahul Chahar into their squad for their final match of the Country Championship season. The 26-year-old leg-spinner has seven whiteball caps for India and has taken 87 wickets in 24 first-class (average 26.12). His best match figures are 9/148.
