Liverpool are in excellent form, entering the EFL Cup third round on a six-match winning streak. Arne Slot’s side has been prolific in front of goal, especially at Anfield, while Southampton have struggled for consistency. Despite possible player rotations, Liverpool are expected to dominate, benefiting from their strong home record and recent head-to-head superiority. Betting on a Liverpool win with over 3.5 goals looks solid, given the teams’ attacking styles and recent scorelines.

Slot’s side extended their winning streak with a 2-1 Merseyside Derby win against Everton at home. Liverpool had 11 shots and first-half goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike secured the win. 

Southampton Form 


Championship side Southampton have won just three of their opening eight games this season. Two of those wins came in the EFL Cup against Northampton 1-0 and Norwich 3-0.

The Saints are winless in three consecutive matches since the Norwich victory. Will Still’s outfit drew two in a row, 2-2 at Watford and 0-0 at home against Portsmouth.

The South Coast team fell to a 3-1 defeat at Hull on Saturday. Southampton allowed 2.12 XG and trailed 3-0 until Adam Armstrong netted a 95th-minute consolation. 

Verdict

Liverpool have winning momentum and Southampton have struggled for consistency this season. A big home victory is expected in the EFL Cup third round.
