Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers Predictions - Ward to slam Strikers bowlers

Editor
Last updated: 08 Jan 2026

The Hobart Hurricanes, currently leading with five wins out of seven, are favored to win against the Adelaide Strikers, who have lost three out of their last five games. Key players such as Tim Ward, who recently scored a match-winning 90, and Nathan Ellis, a top wicket-taker, bolster the Hurricanes. Meanwhile, the Strikers struggle with consistency, although Matthew Short and Liam Scott have made contributions. The Strikers’ leading bowler, Lloyd Pope, and the inclusion of spinner Tabraiz Shamsi could play pivotal roles. Nonetheless, the Hurricanes are expected to triumph, with Tim Ward potentially leading in runs.

Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers Predictions

The Hurricanes are top of the table with five wins from seven matches. The Strikers have lost three of their last five matches, and I don’t see them having the firepower in their top-order to put up a strong challenge against the Hurricanes.

  • Hobart Hurricanes’ Tim Ward has scored 30, 27 & 90 in his last 3 innings.
  • Hobart Hurricanes’ Mitchell Owen hit five sixes in his 18-ball 45 against the Thunder.
  • Adelaide Strikers’ Matthew Short (188 runs, ave 31.33) is 11th in the Big Bash runs list.
  • Adelaide Strikers’ Liam Scott has scored 25, 33 & 48* in his last 4 innings.

Head-to-Head

The Hurricanes have won two and lost three of their last five Big Bash matches against the Strikers.

Hobart Hurricanes Form

The Hurricanes have won four of their last five matches, with their most recent victory being the six-wicket win over the Thunder.

The Hurricanes top order have been filling their boots with runs, with three of their players having scored over 150 runs this season. Nikhil Chaudhary is 4th in the runs list (240 runs, S/R 160.00) and Ben McDermott is 8th (193 runs). Tim Ward has been in good form in his last three innings, culminating in a match-winning 90 against the Thunder.

Nathan Ellis is joint 8th on the Big Bash wickets list (10 wickets, econ 9.66). He has taken two-plus wickets in three of his last five matches (2/43, 1/31, 3/30, 2/44 and 1/46). Rishad Hossain (8 wickets) and Chris Jordan (7 wickets) have also been excellent with the ball, while Will Prestwidge took 2/19 in the win over the Thunder, his first match of the season.

Adelaide Strikers Form

The Strikers bounced back from three defeats in four matches by beating the Thunder by six runs.

Matthew Short has been reliable at the top of the order, and Liam Scott has chipped in with some runs, but the rest of their top-order has struggled to impose themselves on opposition attacks. Chris Lynn scored 79* against the Heat but has failed to score above 22 in his other five innings in the Big Bash.

Lloyd Pope is the Strikers’ leading bowler with 10 wickets, including 4/23 and 2/37 in their last two matches. The Strikers have recalled T20 star spinner Tabraiz Shamsi, who took 3/30 on his Big Bash debut against the Scorchers, before being replaced by paceman Hassan Ali, who was preferred for the match against the Thunder at Adelaide.

Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers Team News

The Hurricanes are sticking with their winning squad, but the Strikers have brought spinner Tabraiz Shamsi back into the squad at the expense of paceman Hassan Ali for the clash in Hobart.

Hobart Hurricanes (squad): Rehan Ahmed, Nikhil Chaudhary, Nathan Ellis (c), Rishad Hossain, Chris Jordan, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, Will Prestwidge, Billy Stanlake, Matthew Wade, Charlie Wakim, Tim Ward, Mac Wright.

Adelaide Strikers (squad): Mackenzie Harvey, Chris Lynn, Harry Manenti, Jamie Overton, Lloyd Pope, Alex Ross, Jason Sangha, Liam Scott, Tabraiz Shamsi, Matt Short (c), Henry Thornton, Jerrssis Wadia, Luke Wood.

Verdict

I am backing the Hurricanes to win, with Tim Ward to top score.
