Hobart Hurricanes vs Brisbane Heat Predictions

The Hurricanes are dominating the Big Bash this season and have continued to win despite resting their captain Nathan Ellis for their last match. The Heat have had a yo-yo season and are in a fight for the playoffs but they need at least one win from their last two matches. I don’t see them having the power to outmuscle the Hurricanes.

  • Hobart Hurricanes’ Tim Ward has scored 30, 27 & 90 in his last 4 innings.
  • Hobart Hurricanes’ Nikhil Chaudhary (263 runs, S/R 157.48) is 7th in the runs list.
  • Brisbane Heat’s Usman Khawaja has scored 2210 runs in 71 Big Bash innings.
  • Brisbane Heat’s Matt Renshaw has scored 33, 41 & 42* in his last 5 innings.

Head-to-Head

The Hurricanes have won three and lost two of their last five Big Bash matches against the Heat.

Hobart Hurricanes Form

The Hurricanes remain comfortably on top of the table despite their last match against the Sixers being abandoned. They had won five of their previous six matches.

Nikhil Chaudhary has been their big run-scorer, but their top-order has been consistent in contributing throughout the season. Ben McDermott has passed the 200-run mark (ave 30.14), while Tim Ward is 24 runs short of 200 runs for the season (S/R 139.68).

Rishad Hossain took 3/26 (econ 6.50) and starred in the win over the Strikers. He is joint 9th on the wickets list, taking 11 wickets at 20.81 (econ 7.63). Nathan Ellis is the Hurricanes’ top bowler with 12 wickets, returning figures of 3/30, 2/44, 1/46 and 2/7 in his last four matches.

Brisbane Heat Form

The Heat kept their playoff hopes alive after they bounced back from a three-wicket defeat to the Sixers by beating the Thunder by seven wickets.

Matt Renshaw has been the backbone of the Heat’s top order, scoring 287 runs at a strike rate of 157.69. Usman Khawaja scored 78 off 48 balls (three sixes) in his first match of the season after returning from Ashes duty.

Jack Wildermuth has scored 110*, 31 and 39 this season, along with snagging nine wickets (3/34, 2/25 and 2/59). His 39 against the Thunder in their last match came off 15 balls (S/R 260.00) with seven boundaries.

The Heat’s leading wicket-taker is Xavier Bartlett (10 wickets). He captured 2/44 against the Scorchers, 3/26 against the Strikers and has picked up at least one wicket in all but one of his matches this season.

Hobart Hurricanes vs Brisbane Heat Team News

Hurricanes skipper Nathan Ellis is back from being rested for the match against the Sixers, with batter Charlie Wakim sitting out. Test opener Jake Weatherald is likely to be in the mix for the Hurricanes during the playoffs.

Michael Neser, fresh from Australia’s successful Ashes campaign, will join the Heat for their critical, must-win match against the Hobart Hurricanes on Wednesday. New Zealand opening batter Colin Munro (five scores under 20 in his last five knocks) and 20-year-old seamer Oli Patterson have been left out of the match day squad.

Hobart Hurricanes (squad): Rehan Ahmed, Nikhil Chaudhary, Nathan Ellis (c), Rishad Hossain, Chris Jordan, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, Will Prestwidge, Billy Stanlake, Matthew Wade, Tim Ward, Beau Webster, Mac Wright.

Brisbane Heat (squad): Tom Balkin, Xavier Bartlett, Max Bryant, Zaman Khan, Usman Khawaja (c), Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan McSweeney, Michael Neser, Jimmy Peirson, Matthew Renshaw, Hugh Weibgen, Jack Wildermuth.

Verdict

I am backing the Hurricanes to win, with Tim Ward to top score.
