Bangladesh vs Australia 2nd ODI Predictions - Australia to bite back after going down to Tigers

Editor
Last updated: 2 hours ago

Bangladesh delivered a standout performance to claim only their second ODI victory over Australia, propelled by Mosaddek Hossain’s unbeaten 86 and Nahid Rana’s four-wicket haul. Despite Australia's recent struggles, key contributors like Cameron Green and Nathan Ellis aim to fuel a comeback in the series. Both teams feature in-form players, with Najmul Hossain Shanto and Cameron Green tipped for strong showings. The recommendation is to back Australia for the next win, but Bangladesh’s recent form means another upset can't be ruled out.

Head-to-Head

Australia have won two and lost one of their last five ODIs against Bangladesh, with two matches rained out.

Bangladesh Form

Bangladesh have won their last three ODIs in a row after taking their last two matches in their series against New Zealand and clinching the opener against Australia.

The Tigers’ top order was in great form, with Tanzid Hasan (54 off 44), Najmul Hossain Shanto (67 off 86) and Towhid Hridoy (31 off 51) getting their side off to a strong start. The key to the win was all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain’s undefeated 86 in his comeback match after four years on the sidelines.

Nahid Rana followed up figures of 3/60, 2/71 and 4/71 with a superb spell of 4/41 to wreck the Aussie challenge. He got great support from Mustafizur Rahman (2/24) and Mosaddek Hossain (2/37).

Australia Form

Australia have lost four of their last five ODIs on the bounce and seem to be struggling with their personnel. They are a resolute side and will fight back hard to keep the series alive.

Cooper Connolly kept his good form going with a 50-ball 35 at the top of the order, with Alex Carey offering good support with a 62-ball 47. Cameron Green kept Australia in the hunt with a 66-ball 52* but it was not enough to prevent an 86-run defeat.

Nathan Ellis has figures of 2/26, 2/45, 4/33 and 3/38 in his last five matches. Liam Scott (2/57) and Matt Renshaw (2/35) also put in a good shift in the 1st ODI.

Team news

Mosaddek Hossain was the Player of the Match after scoring 86* and taking 2/37 in his comeback match after missing out on national selection for the past four years.

"Definitely, there was frustration as it wasn't an easy time for me. Some of you may have seen my struggle. But I always tried to be patient, and complete my job. I always thought that whenever I got the opportunity, I would grab it with both hands,” said Hossain in an interview with Cricinfo.

"I always held the belief that the way I was performing in domestic cricket for the last few years, I would at least get one opportunity. I tried to stay in the present. I didn't think that there was any feeling [of injustice] from the past. I always stayed ready for the next opportunity when I played matches or when I was working hard in the nets," added Hossain.
