England Form


England came into this series as heavy favourites after their 3-0 demolition of the West Indies a couple of months back. However, they failed to impress in the opening game with the batsmen particularly underwhelming.

Jamie Smith got England off to a good start, scoring 54 off 48 balls. However, while Joe Root, Harry Brook and Jos Buttler all got starts, none of them reached 20 runs.

Once Smith was dismissed with the score on 102-4, England crumbled, losing six wickets for 29 runs – all out for 131 on a good batting deck. South Africa chased the score down inside 21 over to win by seven wickets.

England Injuries & Team News


England are trying to build an ODI side, so I don’t expect much to change among the batsmen. They may rotate the bowlers a bit.

South Africa Form


South Africa were very impressive in Australia and that form continued in the first ODI against England. The Proteas won the match by seven wickets.

Bowling first, Wiaan Mulder took 3-33 and Keshav Maharaj 4-22 as England were demolished for 131 runs. Aiden Markram took centre stage in the chase, smashing 86 off 55 balls.

Markram and Rickelton put on a 121-run opening stand with Rickelton ending on 31*.

South Africa Injuries & Team News


Middle order batsman, Tony de Zorzi has been ruled out of the series due to injury. It is likely that Matthew Breetzke will come into the side after scoring four 50+ scores in his first four international ODI matches.
