In-form batters Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan have been key for India, backed by strong bowling from Gurnoor Brar and Arshdeep Singh. Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rashid Khan have put up a fight but lack overall team support. India’s batters and bowlers are in superb form and are making the most of their local knowledge to over-power their visitors. 

  • India’s Shubman Gill scored 154 off 110 balls against Afghanistan in the 2nd ODI.
  • India’s Ishan Kishan hit seven sixes in his 79-ball 125 in the 2nd ODI.

Gurnoor Brar and Arshdeep Singh each took three wickets in the 2nd ODI victory. Brar has figures of 4/57, 2/27, 3/27 and 3/60 in his last five matches. Singh has taken 2/27 and 3/45 in the two matches in the series.

Afghanistan Form


Afghanistan won their previous ODI series 3-0 against Bangladesh but lost the first two matches of the current series and look destined for a third straight loss. 

Rahmanullah Gurbaz has scored 88, 41, 24, 102 & 41 in his last six knocks, while Rahmat Shah has scores of 50, 60 and 79 in his last five matches. Ibrahim Zadran has been in form with the bat, scoring 95*, 61, 578 and 21 in his last five innings. 

Rashid Khan has figures of 2/25, 1/37 and 3/48 in his last three matches. Nangeyalia Kharote (4/76) knocked over four of India’s top six in the 2nd ODI.

A fresh pitch has been prepared for the 3rd ODI at the Chepauk stadium in Chennai that should offer a balanced pitch for the final match of the series. It should play to the hands of the Afghanistan spinners, but they will need their batters to raise their game substantially if they hope to snatch a consolation victory against this powerhouse Indian side.
