India vs New Zealand Predictions

New Zealand put up a terrific fight in the 1st ODI, but India chased down their score of 300 to secure a four-wicket win with six balls to spare. India look far too strong for a New Zealand side missing a few of their first-choice players.

  • India’s Virat Kohli has scored 102, 65*, 131, 77 & 93 in his last 5 innings.
  • India’s Rohit Sharma has scored 75, 155 & 26 in his last 4 innings.
  • New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has hit 28*, 41, 119 and 84 in his last 4 whiteball knocks.
  • New Zealand’s Henry Nicholls has scored 226, 22 & 62 in his last 4 innings.

Head-to-Head

India have won their last five ODIs against New Zealand.

India Form

India made it four wins from their last five ODIs when they beat New Zealand by four wickets.

Harshit Rana (2/65) broke New Zealand’s key opening stand, removing both openers, and Prasidh Krishna (2/60) picked up two of the top six batters. Mohammed Siraj (2/40) was his side’s most economical bowler, his eight overs going for just 5.00 runs per over.

Rohit Sharma (26) and Shubman Gill (56) got the innings off to a good start, but it was the legendary Virat Kohli (93 off 91 balls) who proved to be the match-winner, aided by Shreyas Iyer (49).

New Zealand Form

New Zealand’s winning run in ODIs ended when they lost to India by four wickets in the 1st ODI.

New Zealand’s top-order did their job by racking up a score of 300/8 off their 50 overs. Devon Conway (56) and Henry Nicholls (62) got the innings started with an opening stand of 117 off 21.5 overs. Daryl Mitchell then weighed in again with another hard-hitting innings, scoring 84 off 71 balls to power his side to a competitive total.

Star paceman Kyle Jamieson picked up four of India’s top five batters in returning figures of 4/41 off his 10 overs, but he lacked the needed support from the rest of the attack.

India vs New Zealand Team News

The Indian camp has announced that Washington Sundar has picked up an injury and his place in the squad will be taken by young batter Ayush Badoni.

Indian skipper Shubman Gill was delighted with his side’s successful chase of New Zealand’s total of 300/8. “Always feels great to chip in, especially when you're chasing. At the moment Kohli's making batting look easy. It's tough to start on these pitches and tough to replicate what he does. Hope he keeps piling on the runs,” said Gill after the match.

New Zealand captain Michael Bracewell was proud of his side’s performance in the 1st ODI: “We can be proud of our efforts. There's a few areas we'd like to tidy up. Would've been an interesting game had we got 20 more. I was hoping Kyle could bowl 15 overs today. Always good to see him charging in. Mitchell did a great job and we have some great experience with the bat and we will rely on that,” said Bracewell.

India (squad): Shubman Gill (c), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (w), Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohd Siraj, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel (w), Ayush Badoni.
