MI Cape Town have won one and lost three of their last five SA20 matches against Durban's Super Giants, with one match rained-out.

Durban's Super Giants Form

The Super Giants put memories of their disappointing 2024/25 season behind them by beating the defending champs in the opening match of the 2025/26 season.

New Zealand team-mates Devon Conway (64) and Kane Williamson  (40) got their side off to a flier, adding 96 for the first wicket off just 8.3 overs. The middle-order all chipped in with runs, with skipper Aidan Markram (35 off 17) and Evan Jones (33 off 14) adding 29 off the last nine balls of their innings.

Eathan Bosch (4/46) did the damage with the ball, knocking over three of the MI Cape Town top four batters. Noor Ahmad (0/38, econ 9.50) and David Wiese (1/39, econ 9.75) played a key role in restricting the powerful MI Cape Town top-order.

MI Cape Town Form

The defending champs put up a good chase but failed to match the Super Giants’ daunting target of 233 in the opening match of the season on their home ground.

George Linde (2/46) was the most successful of the MI Cape Town bowlers. Trent Boult was their only bowler to keep it under 10 runs to the over (1/32, econ 8.00), with the other five bowlers all going for 11 or more runs to the over. That is likely to be a one-off blip for this talented bowling line-up.

Ryan Rickelton scored a blistering 113 off 63 balls, smashing 11 sixes and five fours as he led his side’s chase. International stars Rassie van der Dussen, Nicholas Pooran and Reeza Hendricks failed to score big but should be major contributors going forward. Jason Smith showed his power-hitting brilliance with a 14-ball 41 that included seven boundaries.

Durban's Super Giants vs MI Cape Town Team News

DSG’s new skipper Aiden Markram got off to a winning start in the SA20 opener at Newlands.

“An entertaining game, it was high-scoring, edge-of-the-seat stuff. We needed 2 to 3 good overs at the back-end but 232 felt enough. It's a great start, great venue. MI batted well, but there are a few areas we need to touch up on,” said Markram after the opener.

“Great game, especially for the fans. I think we gave 15-20 runs too many away. Amazing, the way Rickelton played was unbelievable. DSG batted really well and we all know how strong their top-five are. Quite unlucky with the result but we gave the crowd great entertainment. Always great to be here, playing in this beautiful stadium,” added MICT captain Rashid Khan.

Durban's Super Giants (possible XI): Devon Conway, Kane WIlliamson, Jos Buttler, Aiden Markram (c), 5 Heinrich Klaasen (w), Evan Jones, David Wiese, Eathan Bosch, Simon Harmer, Kwena Maphaka, Noor Ahmad.
