Netherlands vs Namibia T20 Cricket World Cup Predictions - Levitt to carve out Netherlands’ first win

Editor
Last updated: 2 hours ago

The Netherlands showed impressive form in their recent T20I match despite losing to Pakistan by a narrow margin. Key player Michael Levitt continues to excel, bolstering the Netherlands' prospects against Namibia. Namibia, although boasting quality players like Jan Frylinck, showed inconsistency in warm-up match performances. With Namibia failing to match up well in recent encounters such as the loss to India A, the Netherlands is favored to win. The absence of Namibia player injuries suggests an unchanged lineup for them.

Netherlands vs Namibia Predictions

The Netherlands pushed Pakistan right to the wire in their opening match of the World Cup. Namibia have some quality players and often turn in good performances in World Cups, but I don’t think they have the strength to challenge the Netherlands.

  • Netherlands’ Michael Levitt has scored 90, 86, 22, 25, 34, 20 & 24 in his last 8 innings.
  • Netherlands’ Scott Edwards has scored 41*, 20, 48*, 37*, 26 & 37 in his last 7 innings.
  • Namibia’s Jan Frylinck has scored 77, 33, 134, 22* & 88 in his last 9 innings.
  • Namibia’s Louren Steenkamp has scored 40 & 51 in his last 4 innings.

Head-to-Head

Netherlands have won three and lost one of their last four T20Is against Namibia, including the last two on the bounce.

Netherlands Form

The Netherlands put Pakistan to the sword in their opening match of the World Cup, posting 147 and making Pakistan work until the last three balls for their win.

Michael Levitt continued his good form with a 15-ball 24 at the top of the order. Bas de Leede added 30 and Colin Ackermann 20 off 14 balls. Scott Edwards kept the innings going with a well-timed 37, but they lost their last six wickets for 20 runs in four overs.

After Aryan Dutt (2/33) made early inroads, Pakistan recovered and were heading for the win at 98/2 after 11 overs. A superb bowling performance from Paul van Meekeren (2/20, econ 5.00) - who struck twice in three balls - and Roelof van der Merwe (1/13, econ 4.33) put the breaks on. Logan van Beek (1/46) and Kyle Klein (1/23) then reduced Pakistan to 114/7 in the 17th over, but they couldn’t stop them from scraping home with three balls to spare.

Namibia Form

Namibia pulled off a superb six-run win over Scotland in a warm-up match, only to lose two days later to India A by 130 runs.

Dylan Leicher has scored 28*, 58 & 22 in his last three completed innings, top-scoring in the defeat to India A with 22. Jan Frylinck (12) was the only other Namibia batter to reach double figures against India A after top-scoring with 88 against Scotland. He added 137 for the first wicket against Scotland with Louren Steenkamp, who scored 51 off 24 balls.

Gerhard Erasmus took 1/29 against Scotland and 2/2 against India A in their two warm-up matches. Ruben Trumpelmann (2/44) and Max Heingo (2/30) starred in the defeat to India A, while Max Heingo added 2/44 in the win over Scotland.

Netherlands vs Namibia Team News & Squads

Netherlands captain Scott Edwards was disappointed at his team's loss to Pakistan. "We weren't at our best, but credit to the boys for fighting. Small moments can come on to hurt you. We kept losing wickets at important times. We felt 160 was going to give us a fair chance. We had to bowl well to give us a chance. A couple of good performances from the bowlers kept us in the game. It's a good wicket, Pakistan got it down to run a ball, then we got a maiden and the boys jumped on the momentum," said Edwards.

Namibia: Gerhard Erasmus, Zane Green, Bernard Scholtz, Ruben Trumpelmann, JJ Smit, Jan Frylinck, Louren Steenkamp, Malan Kruger, Nicol Loftie-Eaton, Jack Brassell, Ben Shikongo, JC Balt, Dylan Leicher, WP Myburgh, Max Heingo.

Netherlands: Scott Edwards, Colin Ackermann, Noah Croes, Bas de Leede, Aryan Dutt, Fred Klaassen, Kyle Klein, Michael Levitt, Zach Lion-Cachet, Max O'Dowd, Logan van Beek, Timm van der Gugten, Roelof van der Merwe, Paul van Meekeren, Saqib Zulfiqar.

Verdict

I am backing the Netherlands to win. I am also backing Michael Levitt to top score for the Netherlands.

Jan Frylinck is a good bet to top score for Namibia.
