After losing their five-match T20 series away to India 3-1, the Proteas bounced back with a 2-1 home series win over the West Indies.

The Proteas pack a mean punch in their top order, with a top three of skipper Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton all capable of scoring big runs quickly. Their middle-order of Dewald Brevis, Jason Smith, David Miller and Tristan Stubbs are all true power-hitters who could lift the Proteas way beyond 200 if the going is good.

Their bowling is razor sharp, with devastating pace and bounce coming from Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, Anrich Nortje, Lungu Ngidi and Kwena Maphaka. Keshav Maharaj is a tough competitor and regular wicket-taker in whiteball cricket, while they have a handful of batters who can turn their arm over. Corbin Bosch and George Linde are both dangermen with ball and bat, rounding off what comes close to a perfect squad.

Canada Form

Canada enjoyed a successful campaign in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Americas Region qualifiers, beating Bermuda by six wickets in the final. They lost both of their World Cup warm-up matches, first to Italy (10 runs) and then Nepal (six wickets).

The Canadian top-order is light on runs, with none of their batters passing 41 in their two warm-up matches. Navneet Dhaliwal (41 off 36), Shreyas Movva (38* off 19), Dilpreet Bajwa (37 off 34), Yuvraj Samra (33 off 23) and Nicholas Kirton (33 off 27) were the only batters to pass 30.

Jaskaran Singh took 4/10 for the Kings against the Sixers in the Canada Super 60, followed by 1/38 (vs Italy) and 1/17 (vs Nepal) in Canada’s two World Cup warm-up matches. Saad Bin Zafar has been bowling economically, as well as scoring 35, 29 and 30 in his last three knocks. Dilon Heyliger took 4/9 for BBZ against the Tigers in the Canada Super 60.

South African skipper Aiden Markram was upbeat about his side’s chances in the 2026 T20 World Cup. "Every captain sitting here and the previous captains that were in here before us, they all want to lift the trophy. You have to earn that right in your group stage first, and then continuously play good cricket. It's a competition where any team can beat any team. One or two special performances from individuals can break the game open. We've got some changes in personnel as well. We don't have India in the group stage now, and hopefully, at some stage, we can get to a position in the competition where we can," said Markram.

Canada captain Dilpreet Bajwa was proud to be leading his country in the ultimate form of T20 cricket. "Most of our players are from India. As you mentioned, the conditions are pretty tough in Canada but, thanks to our board, we had a pre-tour in Sri Lanka, and we prepared well. We had a couple of games where we checked our combinations and, as captain, I feel we are well-prepared,” said Bajwa.
