South Africa vs Ireland Women 2nd T20I Predictions - Wolvaardt to keep breaking records against Ireland

Editor
Last updated: 13 seconds ago

In a commanding performance, South Africa Women triumphed over Ireland Women by 105 runs in the first T20I match in Cape Town. Laura Wolvaardt's unbeaten 115 and Sune Luus's crucial 81 off 51 set the stage for a strong South African innings of 220/2 in 20 overs. Ireland's promising six-match win streak was disrupted despite efforts from Gaby Lewis and Leah Paul. South Africa's Nonkululeko Mlaba impressed with the ball, ensuring a clear victory. Looking ahead, South Africa's team appears strong, while Ireland needs to recalibrate.

South Africa Women Form

South Africa bounced back from consecutive defeats to the West Indies by claiming a 105-run win over Ireland in the 1st T20I of their series.

Sune Luus scored a blistering 81 off 51 balls in a second-wicket stand of 176 with Laura Wolvaardt, who smashed a record-breaking 115* off just 56 balls. Dane van Niekerk celebrated her international recall with a stunning cameo of 21* off just eight balls to lift the Proteas to 220/2 off their 20 overs

Sune Luus opened the bowling and knocked Ireland back to 4/2 in the first over, ending with figures of 4/22 off her four overs. Chloe Tryon (2/14) offered great support by picking up two top-six wickets, leaving Nonkululeko Mlaba (2/9) to knock over the last two Irish batters.

Ireland Women Form

Ireland’s run of six consecutive T20I wins in a row came to an end at Newlands when they lost to the Proteas by 105 runs.

Jane Maguire (1/52) and Ava Canning (1/33) were the only Irish bowlers to enjoy success against the on-fire Proteas top-order.

Gaby Lewis (30 off 29) and Leah Paul (34 off 23) were the only Irish batters to pass 13 as they were bowled out for 115 off 18 overs.

South Africa vs Ireland Women Team News & Squads

The return of Dane van Niekerk had a great impact on the Proteas side. "She's been great so far. It looks like she just wants to contribute in any way she can," said skipper Wolvaardt ahead of the match. "She has a lot of knowledge cricket-wise and is a very smart cricketer. She has a look to offer to the team, more than just her skill. It's just nice to have her back. And it seems like she's really prepared to do whatever she can for the team. She brings a lot of energy to the group. On the field she's normally vocal and loud. We can definitely use that."

"To have her back is cool for everyone," added Sune Luus. "She brings a lot of experience, but as a team it also evolved a lot. We have new values and a whole new structure, so I think it's also for her to adapt to that and the new brand of cricket we're playing. She's done that brilliantly and she and coach Mandla Mashimbyi) seem to have a good relationship. So I think there's something very good brewing over there."

There are no injuries in either squad and it looks like they will both field the same XIs in the 2nd T20I.
